Batteries

I know this a topic thats been covered, but advise would be welcomed here...

The battery on the RSV is flat and as I can't remebmer when I last changed it, I'm going for a new one over having to call the RAC out when it next lets me down...

I've always had Yuasa and they've never cause me any real issues, but I'm guessing battery tech has moved on over the years.

Should I stick with the Yuasa, or are there any other recommendations. Only conditions are sensible cost and it has to have enough umph to turn over an old VTwin when cold (and belive me that takes some amps)

(wait) I've got a Brand new (in original box with the sealed separate acid bottle pack ) Yuasa YTX14BS. I brought it for my sister's bike, but she sold it before I had the chance tp fit it for her.
Just in case it happens to be the right one for your bike, and you decide to stay with Yuasa.

Humm, the bike takes a YTX12BS.

/Goes off the check the differences

Probably wont fit in the battery space.

Ive had a Motobatt on the 748 for some 5 years now and it still turns the bike over easily. Recommendation from me.

Looks like your right duke, the 14 is about an inch taller and wider

Also, what's the difference between lead acid and gel?

Yep.: Yuasa spec' says it's the same WxD, but the height difference shows as 15mm taller.

Lead acid means the acid will be liquid. Gel means its a gel rather than liquid.

The only difference i am aware of is that the gel i less likely to leak if the case cracks for any reason but more info here.

Gel can be mounted horizontally where lead acid have to be upright as the liquid could spill.

Yuasa every time for me. Best traditional battery on the market.

If you want to upgrade than go for a Shorai lithium battery but little change out of 200 quid.

'kin-how-much for the Shorai (shocked)

I've gone for a motobatt, Yuasa have served me well but the advertised 20% extra CCA and a 2 year warrenty is appealing. Lets hope it arrives before next Sunday and the bike "just works" after that,

MotoBatt sent me a replacement battery even though it was after the 2 year warranty and they didn't want the old one back. All I said was wrong with it was it was slow to charge.

I've also always bought Yuasa, but i've had 2 batteries go in the same amount of years.

I've just bought a Varta to give that a go. Cheaper too - hopefully not for a reason..
