Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
The 675 is dead but the 750 triple is coming.
Let's hope they do a Daytona 750R how good would that be

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
That's great news for Triumph.
Even if Triumph don't want to do a 750 Daytona it will mean we'll see some 750 cc race bikes being made by smaller companies.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
Already happening Kwacky.
Google T3R M2-11 which is the race bike and Spirit GP Sport R which is 750 triple road bike version.
The race bike has dispensation to race in this year's British Supereport with Alistair Seeley riding it.

Ah cool. That's good news. It would be ace for biking if the 750cc sports bike makes a come back.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
Makes complete sense to bring the 750 back as the 600 is a dying breed unfortunately, with low sales and little development.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
the current Moto2 engine contract runs until the end of 2018 I believe , therefore this is not true , the earliest Triumph would be able to supply Moto2 engines , if they are going to at all , would be 2019.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
Isn't this to replace Supersport in BSB rather than the MotoGP Moto2.?
Either way the engine should be interesting.

Wonder if it would be straight swap for a 675 Daytona engine. What a track bike that would make!

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
They increase the stroke by 5mm as the bore is already at its maximum.
Unfortunately this means the mean piston speed's are very high and exceed even what a rcv213 does so reliability could be an issue.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
Agree....there was someone on one of the boards who had turned a 675 into a custom '726'....cost him an arm and a leg to do it, and all he got for his trouble was a very unique bike, that broke down a lot, and in very unique ways, an empty wallet, and something that no-one knew how to fix.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
So will that mean potential engine issues with the new street triple?

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
No I meant the mounting points, sprocket position etc
Or is it a brand new engine developed for the new street?

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
Depends on the mean average piston speed.
May have an increased stroke but lower rev ceiling so not an issue.
Would need more detail to comment tbh.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
@ Kwacky.
I was just thinking along similar lines....different when a factory designs it's bikes to be built in numbers, rather than a one-off, to be sure......but the higher piston speeds remain the same no matter what.

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
Must be a whole new engine, you're not going to get 160bhp by dropping the revs

Re: Triumph Moto2 engine supplier 2018
It will be a completely new engine to satisfy Euro 4 i would think which means it will be a new design of block.Kwacky wrote:So will that mean potential engine issues with the new street triple?
My guess is the new engine will be designed with torque in mind rather than revs. I think the issue was with the 675 block in that it was never designed to be made bigger anyway.
