Insurance companies - the good

Post by D6Nutz »

I know we all berate insurance companies, but every do often they do something good. This is one of those stories..

As you may (or not) remember, we moved house a little over a year ago, the week after my contract ended unexpectedly and it took me 6 weeks to find another contract. Funds where not good, stress levels where high, and there was a shite load of paperwork to do for the house.

Well, it looks like I missed a but of paper work, namely the house insurance (facepalm)

The washing machine leaked 2 weeks ago and wrecked the lounge. This is how I found my error. Still, I called the broker to see of there was anything they could do. The initial reply was no, the policy doesn't cover the address. Bugger.

Well I was brought up with "if you don't ask, you don't get". So I asked the broker to call the underwriter and ask of they would offer a "gesture of good will" as the policy is 8 years old and it was a genuine mistake.

Can you imagine my shock when they immediately replied "yes" and backdated the policy to the last renewal date.

We are hoping to have the lounge all sorted early next year.

That is really good to hear, especially at this time of year, can I ask who you were insured with?

The underwriters of the policy are Royal Sun Alliance (RSA)
