799:999RS transplant
As I've mentioned in previous posts, a mate of mine transplanted a tricked up 999 RS engine into his 799. He sent me an email today, after he got it on a dyno.
Green is a relatively stock 999 (Termi exhaust, DNA air filter, PC3), blue is as found (super rich) and red is final run. Pretty good result I reckon!!!

Fair play that's a stonker of an engine !! You'd be lucky to get that figure from a GSXR K5 1000

That's a bit of a monster with the tourque it will have some serious pull. The power curve is nice and flat as well.
"80mph" sorry officer I possibly could not have done that I'm no Valentino Rossi.

Re: 799:999RS transplant
It's 5 bhp more than the dyno run my gen 2 ZX10R did!
That engine cost him close to AU $10,000. I'm pretty sure it's SBK spec.

That will definitely be SBK spec to be putting that amount of power out. I m pretty sure thats the same or extremely close to what Hodgons factory 999 was putting out in his title winning season.
Awesome machine

I doubt we will ever know what bhp race bikes actually produce and I bet if we did we would be shocked!!Blade wrote:I m pretty sure thats the same or extremely close to what Hodgons factory 999 was putting out in his title winning season.
They extract stupid horsepower from all these bikes, the likes of a 600cc inline four producing around 140bhp in Moto2 yet they are still bulletproof (in racing terms)

I bet the servicing costs will be high. Hodgson's bike was putting out 189bhp at the crank in 2003 according to one of my books.

Re: 799:999RS transplant
He's a Kiwi as well, he'll do his own servicings. He got the engine built in Italy but the rest he's done himself, he's pretty handy on the tools and has been around bikes for a long time. This is going to be a track only bike.duke63 wrote:I bet the servicing costs will be high. Hodgson's bike was putting out 189bhp at the crank in 2003 according to one of my books.
He also has an 851 and just bought an older R1 for the road.

Re: 799:999RS transplant
The guy that owns this bike rotates out offshore the same time as me and I've just been chatting to him in Darwin. He said it's the same spec as Hodgsons bike, but they ran them to 13,500 rpm to get that power but he's not willing to do that due to longevity. He's more then happy with the power and maintaining a lower rev limit to ensure its lifespan.duke63 wrote:I bet the servicing costs will be high. Re: 799:999RS transplant
So my mate had a bit of bad luck
Had it at the track and it was feeling a bit flat. So he pulled the plug and found this Mmm can't be good he thinks.
Took it home and stripped it down, to find an Allen bolt from the airbox has gone thru his front cylinder and done this
Also munched the head and bent all the valves. Titanium valves. He's now wondering if his valve drive train is ok or not.
He's not impressed to say the least!
