Kawasaki and lubrication, or lack of it!

Finally got the the calliper bolts off, well the local garage did after several failed attempts and hours of swearing. Fairly sure this front tyre and the brake pads are the originals from 6 years ago, so probably the first time they've been taken off and the treads were bone dry. As was the front wheel axle and nuts.

And while I'm at it, 6mm allen head on a 10mm bolt, why would you do that unless you wanted them to strip the first time you undid them? The replacement titanium ones are 8mm.

"MONTY! THIS IS KAWASAKI-SAN....WE WANT YOUR BOLTS TO STRIP SO YOU WILL BUY THE MORE EXPENSIVE ONES!!"

You know the deal...these guys cut the product purchasing down to the penny...even fractions of a penny.

Did you really swear for hours??

It's normally done like that to prevent the bigger Allen key being able to over-tighten the screw and destroying the threads, it's also done with hex heads on bolts etc, i.e. 10mm hex head on a 10/12mm thread that normally has a 17/19mm hex head (spanner size).

P.s. It's also customary to use anti-seize paste on screws with different heads to normal - to prevent what you've had Monty.

Oh this was you that posted on Facebook?!

Did you follow my advice? I used to complete inspection of 'faulty' returned customer items so frequently saw rounded bolts, drilling the cap off and using maul grip to pull the thread out worked every time

No, I got a man in! (lol)

I tried two types of extractors and failed. Then tried drilling them off, but my 24v drill wasn't up to it

Anyway wheels, tyres and angle valves are at the tyre shop now so bring on Happy New Tyres Day!

Can't say how happy I will be to get rid of those Bridgestone's. Horrible horrible profile!
