A speeding biker who mowed down one of Britain's most senior judges and left him with serious head injuries has avoided a driving ban.

Michael Bourne, 41, was riding his motorbike at 50mph through central London before he ploughed into Sir Anthony May QC near Trafalgar Square in June 2014.

The 74-year-old, a former President of the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court, was left with severe injuries and had to be given life-saving treatment at the side of the road.

Today, Bourne, a safety engineer, was given a £650 fine and five penalty points on his licence for careless driving.

On the face of it that twunt doesn't deserve to have been dealt with so leniently IMHO.: "A letter from Sir Anthony’s daughter which was read to the court explained that her father had ‘not fully recovered and will never fully recover’ from his injuries." Equates to; it has virtually ended his life, in my book.!
"The court heard how Bourne already had six points on his licence at the time of the collision after being caught speeding"
Isn't a Suzuki Solo a scooter anyway, not a motorbike.?

What's the maximum fine/sentence available for DWDC&A???

Driving without due care on its own get up to 9 points.

Dangerous driving can get you locked up and see you lose your licence.

There's also causing serious injury by dangerous driving

In the Crown Court, the maximum sentence is five years' imprisonment and/or a fine. In the Magistrates' Court the maximum sentence is six months imprisonment and/or a fine. In both courts, there will also be a mandatory two year minimum period of disqualification and endorsement. The law also requires an extended retest upon conviction.

I'm no saint, and at least as guilty of speeding as anyone else on here. So I guess it would be fair to consider my outrage to be hypocritical.
However...:

IMHO that makes the circumstances even more damming.: You should always adapt your riding to the prevailing circumstances, and if you are well aware there are always "Lemming like pedestrians" around an area you most certainly do not accelerate like a drag race:

"The court was told how Bourne was pulling away from a zebra crossing when he hit Sir Anthony"

Hmmm...which tells me that Sir Anthony was not actually using said zebra crossing (no doubt fitted with belishas) and that Bourne had stopped prior to "pulling away".

OK, that last one is a stretch, but I would tear that witness apart on the witness stand if I were the defense.

£650 fine and 5 points...how does this country allow that...50MPH in a 30 is bad enough but through flipping London where you really should be watching out for idiots who don't look both ways, well it's criminal in my eyes. At his age as well he shouldn't better...however I recogn it's probably the norm for a fair few motorists, which is really sad
