Cav wrote: 21 Aug 2023, 10:03 Another fantastic day on the mountain bike yesterday, approximately 3000m of vertical descending (y)

It's hard work for sure and probably very good press up training
3000 metres?? Is there an extra zero in there that shouldn’t be?
No extra zero.. it's possibly a bit conservative too. It's around 350-450m of descending each run and I did at least 8 runs in 5.5hrs. It ain't easy!
Good effort indeed!!

82.3kg this morning. I've been at over 88kg for far too long so I started tracking my food, increased my proteins and fats and tried to get to the gym more often.

I hit my initial target of 85kg pretty quickly but as expected it's been harder to move from 85kg.

Ideally I want to be 80kg but I'll see how I feel. Losing weight has been good but I feel skinny, even though I'm not. There's still weight to be lost. It's a hard to put in to words.

I'm going on a walking holiday in October with a mate. The plan is to carry on doing what I'm doing until then. After the holiday I'll have a word with my PT mate to see what he recommends. I would like up bulk up over winter but trying to put on muscle in my 50s isn't going to be easy.

Did a fast road/dirt MTB ride today.....except I'm not that fast anymore.
I'm wrecked, knackered, etc.
I need a new hobby....lik low-impact lepidoptery, philately, or something like that.

I’ve been having a similar journey. I lost 12kg with Keto post surgery to 77 kg which I was really happy at, but creeped back to 82 kg. Been tracking intake levels as well dropped about 2 kg and stalled. Didn’t seem to matter what I did. At this stage I was doing no real notable exercise.

Started regular walking/hiking and the weight is starting to fall away again. Down 3kg in 6 weeks. But my fitness has increased as well and I’m having to carry extra weight just to get the same intensity over 1-1.5 hrs.

But the mental health aspect of getting into nature and fresh air most days has been immense.

Couldn’t ride my motorbike because I couldn’t use the throttle, so did 30 miles on my pushbike
If only we had nice weather like this all the time

I don't get out on the mountain bike as much as I want to, however, with Benny on the shotgun seat it's one hell of a work out.

Yesterday we rode 12 miles, climbed 1400ft and that included a 10km cross country loop, numerous runs down the jump line and a big climb to the top for a full downhill run back to the car.

On the last big climb, it's bloody tough. Even on my own I struggle and there are two markers I always try to get to before I left myself get off the bike. On my own I can normally get to the 2nd one and sometimes I can complete the entire climb... well I was very happy to get to the first one!

After that climb there's a short but steeper climb which most people push up. I was thrilled to make it all the way to the top with Benny on board!!! I went past people pushing their bike up with my Son sat on mine and me still pedalling! (lol)

By the time we got to the top (this was 2+ hours of riding by now) my boy had fallen asleep. He was literally asleep riding the bike! Other people noticed and found it hilarious but obviously I couldn't go down the downhill trail with him asleep so I had to get him off the bike, eat some food and have a walk about for 20 minutes. We then had the best time descending and he was laughing most of the way.

My legs are VERY tired today but on top of the fun, it was a very fitness enhancing ride.

Not bad for 7 days straight considering I'm on a 72m-long, 80m-wide platform! ( with the occasional trip to the adjoining platform which is 65m-long, 64m-wide)

Though about a third of that is done on the 25 x 25m helideck after work... Jeez I'm hanging for a bush walk again!

According to Strava algorithms I am not the fittest I've been over a 2 year window. I really wish I could compare to 2019/2020 when I was at my fittest.Image
