Really much difference? DID chains

Post by R1ckster »

Any thoughts on chain replacements and the cost difference between for example

DID upgrade
DID heavy duty
DID Extreme

There's about £50-£60 difference between the upgrade and extreme chain and sprocket sets

For joe blogg who isn't racing or thrashing everyday.. Is there any benefit of the extra £60... That's 2/3 price of another upgrade chain and sprocket set!!

Get into the habit and your chain should last longer.

For your use I would go with the heavy duty.

Cleaning a chain is a piece of p1ss with these:
20160303_100617.jpg
Paraffin from B&Q £4
Spray bottle £1
Chain cleaning brush from eBay £2
The Paraffin lasts ages and makes cleaning a doddle.
DID aren't as good as they used to be apparently.

Which one of those is the XW-ring chain? That's what I have and it's lasted a very long time

Also, clean it every couple of months and re-lube it

What's paraffin like to use clearly very cheap but is it as good as chain cleaner in a can?

Paraffin is the best cleaner I've used. Literally just takes the grease straight off with no effort.

I'd say it was better than anything in an aerosol can.

Does it not damage the O or X rings?

No it's fine to use. Apparently the suzuki manual says to use kerosene (what the Americans call paraffin) to clean the chain. As long as you lube it up after it will be fine. If you google it there are 100s of people that use paraffin.

I use Paraffin too and would happily recommend and never done any damage on my o or x ring chains.

I've just had a browse of the DID site and can't really find an answer but here's the UK distributor:
Maxxis UK
Tel no. 08704 282 728
Give them a call, sure they'll tell you better than I can guess!

Silicone to clean it, "White Lightning" to lube it.....WL is a chainlube/cleaner for MTBs but works fine....has the wax stuff in it.

RK chain for replacement..."XSO" or some nonsense....worked great because it's super-duper light and will make you faster. Seriously....it did 'feel' a bit better.....a chain-drive powertrain is sommit like 98% efficient...a good chain can make a noticeable difference

I've always used Würth dry lube after seeing it recommended on a variety of websites however today I spoke to someone at the UK afam distributor and he suggested dry lubes really weren't very good! He said a good wet lube would make a chain last much longer. He also agreed with what Blade said on another thread, that DID weren't as good as they used to be.
