Every so often someone from your younger years passes away and it almost hits you like a brick wall that life is only a passing moment however rich and famous you are.

One of the greats of the seventies and early eighties without a shadow of a doubt.

I'll be honest here - I have no idea about him or his music although his name is one I knew of as the greats.

Still sad to hear news of anyone passing away though. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones

He was one of the few greats of music. Many come and go but his influence in all aspects of music can't be underestimated to be honest. He constantly reinvented himself and the music he created. Many famous people come and go, he didn't.

I only liked some of his stuff I have to say, but a true artist. RIP.

I was never a fan. I can listen to his stuff but I've never felt tempted to buy any of it.

I loved his stuff, and im with Duke 'Heroes' is my favourite track, he wasn't afraid to try different stuff which I admit not all of it I was keen on but still what a legend. RIP David

David Bowie's music was my favourite listening.
I was never interested in owning my own music, but I made an exception in the case of Bowie. The Scary Monsters and Super Creeps album was my entire record collection.!

I think its fair to say he was one of, if not THE, most influential musician of the 1970s.

Influenced glam rock, punk and new wave, new romantics and also the synthesizer music of the early eighties.

We're going to have to disagree on this. He was a follower of new trends when it came to music, not a starter. He's admitted that himself. He was commercially successful with the stuff he did so his changes of style and music went to a big audience, but he borrowed heavily from the scenes he mixed with.

Everyone borrows from somewhere and turns it into their own style but without any doubt he influenced more musicians that made a career from music than any other of that era.

He's been name checked by artists as varied as Roxy Music, Sex Pistols, Boy George, Spandau Ballet, Iggy Pop, Kanye West...

I have to say a very big loss to the music industry as a whole, and not to jump on any band wagon but Heros is up with my all time favs, I always sing out loud when it's on when I am in the car lol...

How long until channel 4 or 5 stick on the film The man who fell to earth.... Strange one that one was.

Always came along with something different - and it was always good, not the same old stuff decade after decade like a lot out there, but a fresh thinking guy that was willing to take a risk on new ideas, I heard/saw an interview with him in the early to mid nineties, he was experimenting with selling his music on the World Wide Web before it got properly mainstream. Not always my cup of tea (Ashes to Ashes ), but never satisfied with his Status Quo.
Oh and he married (and kept) a Supermodel.....

I like his films.

I'm pretty much the same as the general consensus, loved some of his stuff, not so keen on some, and that movie he did with the puppets freaked me right out for some reason. Golden Years was one of my fav's, probably because it's on the Trainspotting album and I thrashed the heck out of that album.
