Re: What are you doing today ??
Rossgo I'm on my 20th 12 hour shift in a row without a day off.
I had to laugh when you said 4 shifts and knackered
I'm sure you have plenty left in the tank

Yup, 21 x 12 hr nights are my norm. Start my next round in 2 days.

That has just made me chuckle!! I'm fairly lucky at Mars because it's only 2 days and then 2 nights excluding overtime but I couldn't behind to imagine what you go through every month!! That is a very difficult shift pattern you are in mate!kiwikrasher wrote:Welcome to the shift workers life Rossgo coffee is your friend. Today I shall be dying in this ridiculous fcuking heat. Tidying up the house. And then dying again.

Re: What are you doing today ??
Had Mrs Gee's parents round for lunch today, but we made a big flat out Indian style meal instead of traditional British fare, they've both served out in Sri Lanka and Malaysia in the past and developed a taste for the local food, so as a surprise for them we worked all morning and turned out the best Indian style food I've ever tasted.
They were knocked out and thoroughly enjoyed the surprise, it wasn't quite the weather we'd planned -- 32°C here today, but that didn't spoil anything as the beer was cold and the curry hot. Top day today - a bit strange working on Fathers Day, but well worth it.

I did your shift roster for 7 years at the refinery. In some ways it's worse than what I do now. The first two nights are the worst after 3-4 you settle into it and it's just coming off that hurts. Just be careful commuting afternights mate, I had a few scares with nodding off driving home. The bike was never an issueRossgo wrote:That has just made me chuckle!! Re: What are you doing today ??
Yes I agree with that the commute in a car is defo worse after a night. I have used the car once after nights and I felt like a zombie heading down the motorway, been using the bike mostly and with the fresh air hitting you it keeps you pretty alert - through the summer it's not too bad but when winter comes ill have to use my car which is going to be a scary prospect considering it's going to be icy!!kiwikrasher wrote:I did your shift roster for 7 years at the refinery. On my own in the office today. Let's say I'm not working as effectively as I should be. I appear to be juggling a lot of papers around.

Today going to a funeral of a very close friend of my girlfriend and myself. Her dad passed away before the Reading play off final at Wembley after having a heart attack. Very emotional time
