5p for a carrier bag

Is anyone outraged?

I think it's a good idea. It seems to be working in the rest of the UK.

Shame they've not extended it to good already wrapped in plastics. Why you need a cauliflower or broccoli on a plastic tray wrapped in plastic film is beyond me.

I shop at Aldi, the local Abattoir and a veg wholesalers, so always have to take my own bags anyway.

my wife collects plastic bags for some unkown reason and also those containers you get at the chinky takeaway our house is full of them
why dont we go paper bag like the usa uses ?

I lived in Wales a few years back when they started charging for bags, it never really affected me then don't think it will now.

No bags in France, they don't even sell them. Bring your own, much better.

The mess they make is epic, but it should cover all sorts of unnecessary packaging, especially fruit and veg.

Amazon are the worst for excessive packaging but i dont see the government standing up to them.

Equally what about the superfluous packaging that supermarkets use to wrap fruit and veg and meats? Its the usual thing of making the man in the street pay/suffer for it.

Incidentally was talking today to someone who studied this sort of thing at Uni and he reckons that biodegradable plastics are the worst as the stuff just leaches into the soil as it degrades causing damage we might not know about for some time.

Sainsbury's give you a choice. If you go bagless they even give the driver more time for the delivery.

I saw a programme about the effects of plastic in the sea. Plankton are known to absorb microscopic particles of it, which then means it's all the way through the food chain in the sea

Bought a few beers today and forgot to take the wine carrier we have..

So... Rather than pay for a carrier bag I asked if they had a spare box to put the bottles in.. I swear there is scottish blood in me

The only reasons I will miss loads of carrier bags is when I'm cleaning out the Guinea Pigs or the fire.. I do also wish that supermarkets would cut down generally on wasteful packaging.

I don't see why people are moaning. We need to cut down the amount of plastic we use and this is one step towards that.

It's 5p at the end of the day. Not read all the posts but if some members of the public are getting upset about 5 pence they really do have no problems in there life at all which would be an extremely nice place to be.

I'm not pissed off, I'm more pissed off with those guys who buy 1 item at the bloody till or self-service and HAVE TO put that into a bloody plastic Bag. God I hate those people. Oh and I hate those people that buy a bag and say to the cashier...can I have a bag for that!! What the feck goes on in these people's minds. I will only take one if needed and always recycle them but these people are bloody addicted to the things i swear. Why do we need them? Every bloody supermarket sells the bag for life and pretty good ones, for like what 50p each...they last lonnnnng time and don't rip before you manage to get your shopping to the front door!!

Personally if I had it my way supermarkets wouldn't have plastic bags, they would have genuine nice strong bags (not plastic instead a fabric). You would pay maybe a quid a bag but would last for years. In turn we would all have bags in our cars and this would be the norm for all. Plus we wouldn't see nasty plastic bags hanging from out beautiful trees like I'm sure we have all seen dam it!

I swear people wind me up!!
