Doc John - RIP

Post by duke63 »

Sometimes the biking community loses one of its best characters in the most tragic circumstances.

I got to know about Doc John from his postings on the Performance Bikes forum. In the early years of that forum he was a very big part of it.

He was a Doctor who was a motorcycle mounted Doctor who attended many of the Irish road races to provide medical cover at an instant for any accidents on the road races.

This gives you a little idea about what he did in his job.

He was an integral part of the PB forum in its early years and he gave a great insight into what goes on at these events and his part in that. Not only that but he loved his bikes and was a very quick rider. I never met the guy but he was one of those people you felt you knew simply from chatting on the forum.

IIRC he was also a part of the team that researched what went wrong when Marco Simoncelli's helmet came off in his fatal accident.

John Hinds lost his life yesterday whilst following the riders at the start of the Skerries road race yesterday. His bike hit a wall it would seem.

He is going to be a huge loss to the biking community in Ireland.

Have just seen this on the BBC news site, tragic news - the "Flying Doctors" have been responsible for saving many a life on the Road Racing scene. RIP Doc John, you're flying with the legends today. :(
