When I took my leathers to Joyda for repair she said they use cheap zips these days. She said you want a YKK zip. Apparently every zip used to be YKK but then cheap Chinese stuff appeared and if they can save pennys on production they will.

False economy imo as what they loose in production costs they gain 10 fold in LOST reputation.

Our German factory has found out the hard way that it's quicker, easier, less costly and more reputable to sort quality related issues in the factory before equipment is delivered and problems have to be fixed in front of customers, who quite rightly ask why kit is delivered with what is quite obviously sub-par parts fitted. It does no one any favours selling things you know may well fail, well not if you want a successful business that is.

I've treated myself to some Alpinestars trousers. I wanted these when I bought the jacket but they were £400 at the time. MCA Leicester now have them in at £250 and you can get another 5% off, so I've gone for it.

I do like the Rukka, they're really good quality. But the outside pockets aren't waterproof and these Astar ones are. Plus the Alpinestars are wider on the ankle and have a longer Velcro strip which makes it easier to get them to fit and stay put. The Rukka can ride up on the boots I've got. If they do that they end up sitting high up and it's difficult to get them back down to the ankle when you're on the move.

Plus if I get my jacket back I can zip that into these trousers.

I should get a decent chunk back on the trousers when I sell the Rukka, as they're still going for a good price.

Goretex trousers have arrived. Fast service. I've had a quick look (as I'm at work) and they seem to be the usual quality from Alpinestars.

I'll be selling the Rukka as soon as I've given them a wash.

MCA are good. When I bought my Astars gloves from them one colour was cheaper than others as it was discontinued. When I rang to buy they had sold out but let me choose any colour from the range and did them at the same price.

I does help having them nearby. If there are any issues at least I know I've got a shop I can go to. As cheap as these European shops are it's a pain when a problem arises.

Doubt the European shops will be cheap for much longer.

My jacket is back and they've replaced the zip. so hopefully it's back to being like new.

and almost to the year the zip has failed at the waist, the one joining the liner to the trousers.

I've had it with Alpinestar stuff and their failing zips.

MCA will take them back for repair.

What zips do they use, not the YKK zips surely?

No, some cheap shitty ones. I've had a few fail on Alpinestars stuff.

That's a real shame, I suppose it's all about cost cutting but it's the customer that has to deal with it when it does fail. Although I suppose for many they only use these oieves of ewuipment for a quarter of the miles if that of what you do

They've had the trousers since mid October and still nothing from them. I've been chasing for the last couple of weeks - they never call back, I have to chase them which pisses me off even more.

Last Sunday I was told that the trousers are in Italy, but Alpinestar are probably going to replace them for a new pair Fine but I've been without a pair for a while now and it's the wrong time of year to be riding in leather. MCA said they would send me a pair of trousers from stock to tide me over but again I've heard nothing at all.

Your more than welcome to borrow the pair I bought on the IoM. Doubt I'll be riding for a month or two now.

without reading all the comments i would recommend spada, in fact i swear by them. although it seems they all let the rain in eventually as they get worn.

Only just seen this thread. And found it interesting that both alpinestars and rst had failing zips. Almost sounds like they are made inbthe same factory.
