Re: What do you want to vent about today?
I didn't say it would help, simply airing my thoughts.
When you're given a quote they obviously look at a number of things. Some of those won't change regardless of the bike, such as (but not limited to) your location, age, claim history and occupation.
I don't know all of the reasons why the quote for one bike is so much higher than another, but there are several factors involved and some of those are different from bike to bike, including theft. If these bikes are considered at high risk of theft, then a tracker would reduce the quote, if they're rarely stolen, then it wouldn't.

I thought insurance was purely statistics based? If a Ducati is expensive to insure, a lot of them will have been stolen/crashed etc.

Nope, there are loads of factors taken into account including :-
age
postcode
where it's parked
security
cost to repair
costs to replace
occupation
years held full licence
previous convictions (driving and criminal)
previous claims
previous bikes (stepping up from 600cc to 1000cc still makes a difference)
age of bike
value of bike
age
postcode
where it's parked
security
cost to repair
costs to replace
occupation
years held full licence
previous convictions (driving and criminal)
previous claims
previous bikes (stepping up from 600cc to 1000cc still makes a difference)
age of bike
value of bike

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Yes but it's the statistics relating to those things that make up the insurance quote. So sometimes it could be cheaper to insure a car on the road as opposed to in a garage if in that postcode a lot of cars have been stolen from a garage. Old cars are statistically more likely to be involved in a crash so new cars, despite being much more expensive, are less likely to be involved in an accident so are usually cheaper to insure.Kwacky wrote:Nope, there are loads of factors taken into account including :-

But there are times when they have to do a bit of guess work, especially when it's a new model.

Agreed. Probably look at the statistics of a similar bike and add a bit for good luck £££

It also stands to reason that learner drivers can blame their parents for their high insurance premiums as they crashed so many cars when they were younger

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Got a quote of my broker. Totally new policy (current insurer refused to quote) is £852 just for the 1299 without the sp2.
Apparently not many insurance companies insure bikes over 10000 and even less do bikes over 10000 on a multi policy.
I pay 202 for a zx10r valued at approx half the value of a 1299. What I don't get is a quadruple of premium for a doubling of bike value. Surely the likelihood of a claim is the same and only the outcome I. E the pay out increase by a factor of 2 so how do they explain a factor of 4 in premium value apart from they can

They obviously think if you can afford a Ducati racebike you can afford high premiums.
Did you try the insurance company Rossgo recommended?

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Rang my current insurer back as wanted to discuss further and see what discounting maybe possible.
What a waste of my time. Twenty minutes to get back to square one where I was at lunch time as even though he had all the notes on screen we had to go through it all again. Wtf is that all about apart from annoying customers. Another 15 minutes late I get 80 quid of the nearly 1200 premium......yeah like that's going to happen.
Honestly they think you have all day to discuss things. If your not even in the ball park say so as your NEVER going to get the buisness. I really don't need the jackanory about why they can't be competitive (I made up a quote of 667) or how they have limited panel of insurers etc....
If you haven't already guessed I have little patients for jobs worth or fools........

Tbh I hate ringing for insurance so much it's enough to make you stay as is and never change.
Bascially if you have a multi bike policy with modified bikes be prepared to spend at least a full day of your time every year sorting stuff out.

Haha I will Rossgo. Good news is they usually see it my way in the end it's just how long it takes them to get there that's frustrating

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Must be the panigale name Blade. I just got an online quote with my current insurer for a 1299 ( just out of interest) and it was double what I pay for the Multi, same make, 100cc difference in engine size, everything else the same.
Happiness is not a destination. It is a way of life.

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
I'm not sure it's any Panigale I think it's a 1299 specifically tbh.
I got a quote a few months back when the Rsv4 quotes were coming in at silly money on an 1199 and for comparison and I m sure it was only about 365.

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Jess' work mate with the Ducati sold it. For $22K. I would've paid that, ridden it for summer, sold it and made $5-7K.
Apparently he had sold it by the time Jess found out about it a couple of days ago. It was the reason he had the pics floating around.
For him it was just a value thing, had no interest in it. He sold it for more than the debit he was owed so that's all he cared about.
It was a 1199S not R, but still about $30K value here in Aussie

Yep!!! Two of them five minutes apart......../ "-and another thing!!"
Hope you get it sorted Blade....I remember what ins. is like in the UK...it's like buying a fecking house or sommit. I don't think I's even bother with road-riding if I lived there. Too much hassle.

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Well I might as well continue with my ranting if for no other reason than it makes me feel better
Not today but yesterday, I saw a mum walking her daughter to primary school with her ipod on. That's the mum with the ipod on by the way not the child.
What's that all about. I love starting the day by walking my kids to school. It's a privilege not to be wasted imo. No toys, no tv, no distractions just you and your child sharing some conversation it's a great time and a great start to the day. What a shame to waste such a golden opportunity. Some people just don't see the joy right in front of them.
