Running club tonight, that was proper hard work. I peaked my heart rate at over 175bpm more than once tonight.

Thinking I need to do some more speed training so might sign up for a couple 5k races.

I'm very bored with going to the gym. I've lost all motivation.

I've given up my gym membership now.. Totally lost all motivation for going.

I just do running club now, which is usually twice a week but sometimes three. I've coupled that with cycling a bit. Now I've converted my mountain bike into a hybrid it's much easier to cycle distances on the road.

After blowing out my archillies Perks, the physio said (who happened to be a ultra marathon runner himself) to only increase the amount of running you do by 10% each week. Any more than that and you risk injury, and this was the thing he said that hurt the most..."especially at your age" |(

Just work up to it mate, and get good shoes, don't scrimp on them.

Point taken,I'm no spring chicken and don't want to get injured.I will take it steady and ramp up slowly

I'd agree 100% with kiwi, build up nice and steadly to get your body used to running. One of the guys I'm working with didn't and he's paying for it, he is incredibly fit but tried to run 13 miles without and previous training. He is still in pain 3 weeks later.

It might be worth searching out training plans for a half marathon to give you an idea of what distances you should be running and when. There are also a number of Couch to 5/10k podcasts designed to help new runners get going.

With regards to shoes, definitely get good shoes but more importantly get the right shoes for you. If you can get to a proper running shop you can get a gait analysis done which will help in choosing the right shoes. I have been to sweatshop a couple of times now and they are always very helpful, they also offer a 30 day exchange policy if the shoes you choose cause you problems.

Knackered myself out last night..

Cycled 6 miles to the meeting point for the run.
Ran about 6 miles, mainly trail on wet grass.
Cycled 6 miles home in the pissing rain and strong winds.

Fecking knackered today..

Agree with Nutz on the gait anaylisis and the 30 day exchange is a good feature as I had to change mine as although the right level of support they rubbed terrible so swapped to a different support shoe.

Did my first 10k race yesterday evening. Managed 55 mins, bit disappointed as I would like to have been quicker, but I underestimated the course.

Race 2 is next month so I've got a target set.

I've started running a little again last week with two 8k runs, which I felt pretty good. Did them in 45 mins so pretty happy with that.

I've also bought a decent road bike to do some cycling this summer too, so should be getting fitter I hope to post some decent results here :). I'm also using my phone to record runs and cycles . Brilliant use of a smartphone, some apps are pointless but fitness really does lend itself to these apps :). Doesn't make me faster though :)

No danger of that :). As an elite athlete I wouldn't want to upset anyone...... :). Not.
