It is illegal to carry something like that about in public , get the police back out on the beat , proper police not pcso's who are useless in every situation involving a genuine criminal .

Police numbers have been so heavily cut most of them patrol in cars on their own.

Agreed.

Short term policies made to try and save a few quid will cost more in the long run.

Totally agree with Kwacky. Look at the the police force, there's no one around! What they are carrying there's no excuses for, but they feel like they can and therefore won't stop, like the guy said karma will get him...but he's not talking about going to prison he's thinking more along the lines of someone stabbing him! Shows there's very little police presence in these guys eyes.

Question

Should police be feared?

This question is stating that they aren't feared at the moment!

Oh...and regardless of numbers, Police can cover a much bigger area with a vehicle, have more tools at their disposal, etc.

I personally disagree with you there. Having a visual police force walking down the street is by far a better deterrent than a copper driving around having no impact on the public. It's not only that but when you walk down the street you pick up noises, feelings and even the general public will talk to the copper letting them know of suspicious activity etc. In a car the copper gets none of that, in fact the biggest impact they have is for other drivers to slow down. I think I'd prefer a copper who could potentially stop a mugging, or a fight while on the beat in the local town than a copper driving around waiting to be called to go to a location 5 miles away when there could of been a local Bobby walking around that location and potentially deter that particular crime from even happening.

So in essence Ross, what you're saying is that you know more about Police-work than the Police do, is that correct??

And they should base their work upon what you would 'prefer'??

That's AWESOME, Bro!!!!!!!

Your statement would have some weight D, if the Police based their work upon 'best practice' rather than what they can enconomically achieve on their ever shrinking budgets.

I personally feel Rossgo raised some very valid points and was engaging in an ongoing conversation with a level headed contribution.

You instead decide to berate him

That's AWESOME Bro!

I don't think I'm saying that. I listen to everyone's POV as everyone sees everything differently and all have different points they will pick up on. I am merely saying my opinion on the matter

The way I think about it is. Would it be easier to rob a house while the owners are downstairs watching telly or when they are having a night out leaving the house unattended?

Same logic applies with the old bill, a visual force is a better force (sorry service - namby pamby country we live in).

The police in the UK regularly say that their preference is to have boots on the ground - regular foot patrols using the same coppers so they can build up a relationship with the community. Visual policing is a known deterrent.
