Gsxr1000 k5 no anodized bits on it. However it has had a paint job and is a bit bright but was a good bike underneath so could not turn it down.

Washed the bike and cleaned the chain, which looks new despite the road salt.

It's Monday Morning Motorway Madness today

M6 shut and loads of crashes on the M40 and the A roads between home and work.

Rubberneckers should be shot. There's no need for it.

I only had on person sound the car horn at me this morning so that's an improvement.

Very windy out there this morning. But at least it was dry and not too cold.

The mornings are getting lighter, it's really noticeable now. It's dark when I leave the house but pretty light by the time I'm on the motorway.

I gotta admit I took the car today. I filter so close at times, that it wouldn't take much to knock me into a car. And the winds at 6am by me were really strong. Typically by the time I got to work, the wind wasn't too bad.

Think it's getting icy after today. So someone told me. I don't look at weather report anymore, but gauge it by what its like when I'm walking the dogs at 5:45 am

I'm in the car today. I've got to go to Leicester county court but given the forecast I would have left the bike at home today regardless of work appointments.

An unexpected oil change.

Jess and I are going for a 2.5 hr trip up the coast for a kid free overnighter, so I gave the bike a check over as since I bought it I've just been doing tyre pressures and jumping on. It was fully serviced included belts when I bought it and I don't think I even looked at the oil level at the time as I just rightly expected post a major service it would be all good. I've only done 1200km on it so far. To my horror when I checked the oil today it was right at the bottom of the sight glass, you actually had to tip it slightly to see the level.

No worries, I'll get a 1 L bottle and top it up. It has Shell Advance Ultra 4 full synthetic in it. No where in the Sydney Metro area had it, except for one place that would sell me 4L for $145.00. I even rang the Major Ducati Dealer (100 km away) and they said they don't use it, they use Mobil 1 despite it being the recommended oil by Ducati. So I rang the local Ducati Service guy and he said the same. But he said come over and he'd decant me 4L from his bulk store.

So I bit the bullet and got 4L and a filter for $112 and changed the lot. I now have 1/2 L for top ups and know that my oil level is good and can monitor if it's burning it or was never at the correct level to start with.

Had to bloody remove the mainstand to get the baseplate off, then refit it to do the job, then the same in reverse to put it all back together.

At least I have peace of mind now.

Well made it up the coast.

My god, that is the hottest conditions I have ever ridden in. Local temp was 42 deg C when we set off but the air temp on the bike was registering mid 40's and at one intersection with the radiant heat from the road we saw it hit 50 deg C. An hour in we had to stop at a service station and demolished a Gatorade, poor Jess was ruby red and feeling faint. I'm pretty conditioned to the heat from offshore but I also had the benefit of more wind cooling being on the front. That being said the air was like fire anyway. Once we got closer to the coast it cooled down to a nice 35 deg. We took the Old Pacific Highway which zig zags next to the Pacific Mwy. A couple of times we crossed over the top of the motorway and the heat coming off it instantly hit you like a wall of flame and the temp jump to 40+.

Staying at a lovely little cottage Air BnB and complete with a pool! So a couple of hot and sweaty bodies went straight in there!

Bike didn't miss a beat and kept its cool even if we didn't.

I don't envy you riding in that sort of heat.

It was pretty extreme but we were dedicated to the cause. It was Jess' first big ride and she didn't want to wuss out. Was still more fun than a car up the motorway I must say. Doesn't hurt to push the boundaries now and then.

That doesn't sound pleasant.

The hottest I've ever ridden was 35* on a trackday.. I was hotter sat in the garage than I was riding the bike but it was ridiculous. About 5 litres of water later I still hadn't pee'd all day

Oh f**k that. I just said to Jess I'd rather today's ride than be cold and wet.
