Then the Chinese copied and improved the design for a fraction of the price. By removing any safety features.
Yeah...that's great. Thanks for that..

I dunno about that. The guy I used to live next door to had a new Chinese 125 every year. He NEEDED a new one, no amount of ACF50 would have stopped it rotting to bits. The bike was ginger after 11 months. There'd be trails of rust as he set off in the morning like a f@cking red arrows display. It was kept indoors too.

They are.

But Packard was always in the USA.....and Packard built way more Merlins than R/R ever did.

By the end of its production run in 1950, 168,176 Merlin engines had been built; over 112,000 in Britain and more than 55,000 under licence in the U.S

Fair enough. But I did write that they were Spitfire motors. The multi engine apps......Lancasters, etc.....their motors were the Brit-built mills.

Fair shout.

Did you know?.....The original Messer-Bf.109's were also powered by Rolls-Royce engines??? Small batch...smuggled to Spain to help Franco (allegedly) and then on to Germany. Different sources on that one though......Wiki will tell you anything you want it to, History Channel claims a higher number, though still low.

I've asked Triumph UK on twitter if I can nip up to the factory for a test ride.

I'm not very confident I'll get a reply.

Hopefully they've registered my interest and having seen that I run such a massive motorcycle website they'll invite me out to the road test and launch party in Spain.

Yeah, but Kwackmeister is dead right, Silver levers suck massively...black levers are cool as cucumber. They're one of those things right in front of you the whole time when you're on the bike.

I went into Triumph Birmingham on Saturday to see if they had anymore information about these bikes, such as release dates or demos. They only had 2 staff on and both of those were tied up with other customers for the 15 minutes I was in there.

They have loads of new and nearly new 675 Street Triples for sale. I suspect they'll struggle to shift those unless there is a big price drop. That said, £6,300 for a nearly new (2015 and 2016 bikes) street isn't bad value.

I'm going into our local dealer once the dust has settled on this one and see what i can get a used one for. Should be very good value if the new model has good wow factor.

I reckon £6k should be enough. The limited edition 675 Streets are less than £8k and they will drop in price when the new one comes out.

The only potential fly in the ointment is popularity of the new models. If there's a waiting list for them then the current model will hold the price for a bit longer.

I'm going to see what impact it will have on the speed triple prices.
