Whilst I can understand stand the thrill of wanting to stand on the highest point on earth, I wouldn't want to go through the climb to get there.

I remember one of the first times at altitude in the alps (about 15,000ft) staying in a small lodge while acclimatising and getting in and out of a bunk bed was exhausting.

I've been to everest and I can understand wanting to climb it. I wouldn't because i think its been over commercialised. I've climbed across the valley (just of 20,000ft) and it is incredible.

Wales were 2-1 on with the bookies before the start of the game. You could see why. SA were all over the place. No power, poor handling, no confidence. Weird seeing them like that.

I've been up to 14,000 feet in Nepal and 18,000 feet in Kashmir. Kashmir was by far the worst and we'd had 2 months to acclimatising before we did the trek. I was really fit at the time and the last 50 meters into the camp took me about 30 minutes, just couldn't get enough air in!

I was quite lucky compared to most, some of them got massive head aches and the "Both Ends"!

The Pamir range is the highest area I think I've ever been. I was very young & fit back then, but it still took a few weeks to get used to it as best I recall.
On a positive when we go skiing these days I'm never even slightly effected in the same way as my friends, even in the highest resorts. I do wonder if maybe that could be a legacy of those years.
