The so-called designer that thought it would be ok to place a certain component in a completely inaccessible place. Which, if you actually wish to touch it with a finger, necessitates a complete days work to get to. It needs changing of course, so it'll be a 2 day job at point in the future.

Sounds about as long-sighted as most of the stuff I endure day-to-day.

For example, the product I'm working on uses the same motor assembly to power all variants of the product (some are long, some are heavy, etc). They seemingly guessed figures and test limits because any time I ask the question "why?" I'm usually greeted with pained expressions of uncertainty.

Then there's the matter of attempting to test stuff. I have to redesign certain components because they are disposable (to take the thing apart you have to physically break stuff). SO MUCH FUN!!

What do you design??

I know some of the car companies do stuff this way to ensure that only their certified slackers do the maintenance....breakaway body clips and stuff like that.

I work for a company that produces highly precise, highly repeatable products for measuring.

I can tell you with certainty that any deliberate weaknesses are not deliberate or at most they are an after thought. This product is a low profit product to enable us to offer the complete package and therefore everything is pretty much thrown together and if it works then great. No real investigation goes on then when something changes in the materials or manufacturing and the performance is adversely affected no one has a clue what to do.

I'm in the process of creating a plan of action for testing which I haven't made my boss aware of yet so I can truly get to the bottom of this stuff. If I can reduce the number of issues we're fighting then I'm happy

If we were talking face to face I'd tell you the name, company and show you photos but I won't do any of that over a public website :x

No...if we were talking face to face you'd just tell me that I talk funny, then run off laughing.

I know I would.

Cancer. It can just f**k right off.

It's been hard enough on Jess her dad having kidney failure and on dialysis but her mum just got diagnosed with breast cancer today.

Lets keep our fingers crossed for her, that they've caught it early.

Yup, pretty much my exact words to Jess today. She has a specialist appt. next week where they will get a better idea of the situation.

Today's rant the the fecking stupid train companies that have connecting trains arriving and leaving at exactly the same time.

Legged it down one platform, under the underpass, up the stairs, and down another platform only for the guard to say "sorry the doors a closing"

Ffs!

30 min wait for the next train now, and gone is another chance to see my kids

Oh, and to make matters worse, ask the other fecking trains are delayed by a minimum of 15 mins.

On the subject of trains,: My nephew asked me if I could take him to Brough train station to catch the 19:35 to Leeds. Was a little later setting off than I would have wanted, but dropped him off at the station at 19:30.
He trotted over to the platform just nicely before the train arrived, on he got & away he went.
Just as the tannoy announced that the Leeds train would be delayed by about 20 mins.
He had boarded the Doncaster train, that was also delayed, by about 10 mins... (clap)

Wouldn't happen in Japan, eh Kwacky. (shake)

Spineless parents that don't deserve the children they have.

<Back story>
4 years ago I moved into my dad's, 2 years ago I moved out. I moved out on bad terms and it had been about 18 months of hell before finally admitting defeat. The reason I left (not the point of this story) was due to my step mum making my life hell and my dad's spine dwindling in size over the period I lived there to the point where anything she said he agreed with - she cried over me using vinegar FFS!
<End of Back story>

After moving out I tried so many times over many months to build bridges with my dad, taking him to the pub or going to the driving range, and every time it failed - because of him and his attitude. There were numerous emails sent back and forth and the very last time we spoke to one another was just before Christmas 2014. His email wrote, I quote, "that's it, I'm throwing the towel in". I didn't reply.

2 years later, having not spoken to each other since the email, he receives a letter addressed to me from the DVLA (I forgot to change address on the V5). He kicks off at his parents who rang me practically in tears in fear of me getting in trouble with the law; they're 70-odd and have more on their plate than they should do at their age and it's made me really fecking peeved.

In the 2 years I lived there I had never cried so much, nor wanted to lash out as much in all my life. However, in the last 2 years I've developed so much as a person; I've seeked councelling and therapy and started what I call "Project Cav" (working on myself and being who I want to be).

I am better without him and he is now just Neal.

Just saw this... really sorry to hear this, dude. :(

The 'good' news (if you can call it that) is that breast cancer is one of the most successfully treated cancers today.. I hope they do everything they can !!!

Cav, I know what it's like to be in your situation. I've had it with both of my parents. I've not seen nor spoken to my dad for over 12 months now, despite trying.

I hope you find what you're looking for.
