It looks to me as though the fluid pressure from behind the piston ( that should force the piston against the back of the pad to engage against he disc ) has instead forced the casting apart.D41 wrote:What was the reason behind them breaking??

Chances are if you buy direct from Italy they are the real deal. I bought my RCS MC for £170 posted from a dealer in Italy.. it came with the Guarantee card which I put into the Brembo website and it was a genuine.
