Back to night time riding. I don't mind riding in the dark, it keeps you on your toes.

The traffic was stopped on the M6 this morning as there was a multi vehicle smash where the M6 and M42 join. The tailback was massive. I filtered to the front and had to wait about 5 minutes before being released.

I don't think the Jag next to me spotted the unmarked black skoda leaving the scene, judging by the racing start he did when we were allowed to drive off. He soon clocked his mistake when he went tonking past the Skoda which followed him for about a mile before putting the lights on.

I had great fun on my way back from Wales once..

Just wanted to get home so took the M48 over the old Severn Bridge then up the M5 to home. Less than a mile after I got on the motorway there was standstill traffic. 10 miles later I reach the front of the queue just as the police are releasing the traffic. The copper clocked me, smiled and indicated to slow down. I nodded back to him and dropped the speed to around 25 as I went through in 2nd gear. As soon as I cleared the last cone I dropped it to first gear and had a chance to unleash my bike for 1 mile before my exit.

Oh.. and I had the Racefit on !! (lol) I'm pretty sure I made that copper's day!

Replaced the standard SCU for the Ohlins semi-active unit.

Pulled the old one out and it had Ohlins stamped on it. For a minute I thought someone had already modded it!! So a quick google search finds the OEM units has Ohlins branding but their aftermarket SCU has none. Sorted that confusion out and carried on. To activate the active control you have to set the compression and rebound to 1. That's 4 power modes x 4 suspension modes x 4 setting changes (C & R on front and rear), so all up set 64 settings to 1. Turned the DTC back on, reset the clock and it's done!!

Just had a quick hoon to the pub near Jess' work to have a lunch date, and so far it is all positive. I've so far left the suspension as I got it. It felt a bit soft at times but I thought that was the adventure bike way. Well post SCU change and it feels firm but plush. Hard to describe. Over all it felt firmer, but not jarring. Yet over crap sections of road the bumps were not highlighted as you'd expect with firm settings but where absorbed with ease. Very confidence inspiring and made me want to go harder.

The biggest change was in braking and acceleration. No squat at all in hard acceleration and the extra drive was noticeable. I actually thought I was in Sport mode but it was only Touring. So put it in Sport and the punch was (devil)

On braking there is only about a third of the nose dive and once it's dipped it holds there even if you brake harder. That was my biggest dislike of the Multi was the horrendous dive under brakes. And it's gone!!!

So all in all a great mod.

The biggest plus with semi active is the lack of dive and squat but still having plush suspension.

I still get a bit of squat under very hard acceleration but I haven't played with it again recently. Just been enjoying the riding.

It can wait til next Spring now.

I've decided that I don't mind riding in the dark, but I'm not a fan of filtering in the dark.

Fwiw I don't much mind filtering in the dark, but I do get quite nervy when I'm filtering in wet conditions.

The roads were relatively quiet so I didn';t spare the horses. That bike still makes me smile when I'm getting a move on.

Not mine but a neighbour has just bought himself a 2015 reg Royal Enfield. He let me take it up the road and back. Have to say it was an interesting thing to ride. Thought it would be heavy but it wasn't. Its a 500cc single so chugs along.

Makes you realize two wheels and an engine can be fun at any level.

I've done a few thousand miles on them in India, utter pile of junk. The only redeeming feature is you can repair most things with a beech-combed flip flop and a pair of stockings.

Unless of course you are 10 miles into a 40C 100% humidity jungle and don't have said flip flop or any stockings.

Exactly how I feel about my bike mate. It's probably just scraping 55bhp but to me it's a brilliant bike to ride and I enjoy it more than I did my Street Triple.
