What did you do to your bike today ??

Took it into the garage for a service. However he wasn't in!!

so one of the other garages in the area said I could pull the bike up into their garage for safe keeping so they can give it to my mechanic tomorrow! I'm happy about that and thought it was a nice thought!

It would have been one of the dullest rides into work, had it not been for a tw@!! in a white 4x4 Nissan who in Brum city centre decided to swing from a slip road across two lanes and almost wipe me out. Thankfully I saw him coming so I managed to hit the throttle, but it still needed him to spot me at the last minute and stop steering into my lane to avoid an accident.

but I don't drive in Brum, so it wasn't me

Picked her up. Fresh oil and filter, checked the coolant and Gary said it's absolutely fine no need to change it yet, brakes cleaned and bled and air filter cleaned he said that the air filter had lots of crap in it but after a blow down it was like new so no need to replace. It's prefect hoping to get out on Sunday with the IAM lot.

Washed both the bikes today, the 999 wasn't too bad but the multi was absolutely filthy.

Yesterday went out with the advanced lot. Before I went out they had the suspension guru there and he asked me a few questions about what type of riding I do etc and off he went adjusting it. He was saying how stiff the suspension was and how I must of been aching after I had rode it...I didn't really realise just how much it was in need of getting set up. When he had finished he said it will be more comfortable, have a quicker turn in and feel easier to ride and that i would love it...literally pulled out onto the main road and I could tell the difference it had made. Feels incredible road some really rough roads and some nice smooth ones and the bike just felt planted and comfortable.

In short 20 quid well spent!

They can be a bit skittish on the road with the factory settings. It doesn't take much to make them better behaved though.

I found I took a little compression off the front but the rear was just terrible. Increase sag by 5mm and upped compression (increased sag for plushness but then it kept bottoming on bumps) and it was just woeful.

Still blistering fast but not comfortable haha

I've got the compression 3 turns out and I'm still hitting the bump stops. Definitely needs more damping, but then to be fair it's 6 years old and probably still on the original oil. Roll on next spring and a trip to MCT.

Yeah get it done. It makes a big difference. I feel the guy I took it too was a little conservative - on closer inspection I'm almost bottomed out on my suspension travel midcorner at Catalunya

Funnily enough you're right Daz, no point having 150mm of travel and only using 130mm, but iirc most forks have a rubber end stop inside that stops any metal to metal contact if the front does try and bottom out, so you think you nearly bottomed out, but in truth you probably did.

Fwiw nearly all road bikes have compromise suspension, as they have to carry a pillion and be safe. Respringing a bike and reworking the damping for track work is a big plus - especially if you're fast, it's not as hard as you think to find the limits of the bike are holding you back.

I usually use a zip-tie around the stanchion to see how much travel is being used.

The BPFs have a small spring not a rubber stop and they rattle your fillings out!
