First death in an automated car

Sounds like a cock up from Tesla if the car can't tell the difference between the sky and a white vehicle.

Hmm. Always going to be car accidents until all cars are automated so it would be interesting to see the report findings. Was the driver watching a movie - the autopilot is an aid - its not meant to allow the driver to do anything else while its doing it.

There'll be deaths even after they're all automated methinks....failure of the programming to differentiate sh*t. Like you say, it's an aid to assist drivers, not something to stake your life on.

This happened before too....not a fatality, but some wreck in Colorado or some other podunk place.

At least 95% of car accidents are caused by driver error on the part of one or more drivers involved. Even if we reduce that to 50% by using automated cars it's going to save lives and money.

And over 50% of single-vehicle motorcycle fatalities (US & Canada) are alcohol related...do we re-introduce Prohibition??

How else do we cull the morons??

Where does the 50% figure come from...are you just speculating on that?

Remove drivers seatbelts and airbags, and add a 3-inch spike to the middle of the steering wheel. Problem solved.

I'm making the point that even if we cut the deaths and injuries on our roads by half it's a good thing.

Once more automated cars appear on the roads accidents and traffic jams will start to decrease

The accident part I can agree with. Not sure about the congestion part...never really have to experience it much.

Most congestion is caused by cars driving too close. One brakes and the others behind brake harder, so the traffic slows right down.

Oh, I know how it works...I'm just never in it. When I was working in flooring I was always going against the traffic...heading out to the Inland Empire while all those folks are heading in to LA. Plus, I know my way round very well...different place every day sort of thing. Most people don't, and then run out of options once they hit a bad patch of traffic.
On a bike you just split lanes, so no big deal at all.
