You couldn't cock the weapon with an empty magazine fitted. But if you pushed the follower (plate on top of the spring) down at the rear you could get it to jam in that position and when fitted to the rifle you could cock it, because it "fooled" whatever interlock there was.

By the looks of this it was the Lock Bolt Catch.

I really don't remember or even think I ever knew, recoil is after you've fired and I wasn't going 5 rounds a second so of no consequence really.

And I'm done reminiscing the times I did use firearms mate, this thread has got off track, rather experted guided by you I must say.

Back on track..

The US has crap guns laws and mass shootings with continue to happen until they are changed. Gun control law reform does work, not just here in AUssie but a number of other countries. The fact it was reported he tried to by body armour and more ammo but was refused is good. But they didn't reported it to anyone!?!? Why does any civilian who is law abiding need bloody body armour!

For the same reason anyone does.

Protection.

But yes, I see your point for the most part....BUT....a vest doesn't actually DO anything. It's a seatbelt or an airbag....it's not proactive, it's reactive...you hope you don't ever need it, but it's there if you do. Insurance.

OK...great. The arms laws are crap...tell me how you'd fix them?? Anyone can comment on something they think is crap.

Aus or other countries is not pertinent...what they do/have matters not a jot.

Buying ammo?? Depends on what type. It's used in construction.

Not illegal to ask to buy something & be refused. Quite common. 'Spesh with me and hookers. |(

Want to justify your reasoning?

It's worked in a number of countries, why wouldn't it in US?

Second Amendment.

It'll be altered...and has been done so extensively. But it will never be taken away entirely. Never.

To do so would impinge upon The Constitution too much for US sensibilities (note I didn't write 'sense'}...the legal and legislative fabric upon which everything in the US is based/justified.

Hmm, intransigently basing your society and laws on a something written hundreds of years ago can be a recipe for poor policy, Sharia law and RC views on abortion/contraception spring to mind as examples, and gun laws that seemed sensible in maintaining an armed militia when the British wanted to re-annex your country was sensible at the time, but that's not likely anytime in the foreseeable future that I can see, so guns are not necessary.

To this particular foreigner a section of America appears reluctant to go back to being ordinary people without the ego boost or personality prop that a loaded weapon gives.

Comparing secular religious views with US internal policy is not necessarily a very good doyen on which to base what you're suggesting...as religious views haven't changed to any great degree for millenia. You're talking spirituality vs. reality.

But...I'm very biased on the topic. And armed....so don't feck with me! (lol)
