Black visors

The copper who stopped me at Matlock last month didn't mention my black visor.

I never saw a copper yesterday ,maybe I need glasses and not a black visor

One parked at the roundabout to our left as we were coming back, we went straight on to head towards Stratford.

Another coming the other way when we got stuck behind all those cars on the B road not long after leaving Stow.

Why not try the Bell Qualifier DLX helmet, they come with a Transitions visor, in the day its dark, at night its clear, problem solved! Only downside is dont scratch the visor £140 for a new one, helmet with visor is only £180........

Never been pulled for it but even when I got pulled while wearing it they didn't say a thing - even though it was at night.

I don't wear a black visor now anyway, I wear a light smoke - useable in every condition

You need a black one over here so your eyeballs don't burn out in summer. But even winter there is plenty of bright days.

I bought a Shark with the intergrated sun visor and it worked a treat in NZ, hopefully get to try it out in Aussie in the coming weeks

The drop down visors aren't strong enough to cope with the morning sun, which is pretty much at eye level for about 4 months of the year for me.

Fwiw like Kk I have a Shark lid for commuting, with a flip down tinted visor inside.
It works very well for me & is plenty dark enough. In fact I tried it out at night when I first got it, and IMHO driving with that level of dark tint at night would be exceptionally dangerous except on well lit roads.
I have a black visor on my carbon fibre lid, but I only use that on track, & mainly to avoid having to see my 'orrible face in any photographers shots of my beautiful bike.

I guess the integral ones are road legal light smoke.

There isn't a road legal level of tint for the sun visors (afaik). They're not subject to the same regulations as visors

Makes sense tbh as same as sunglasses and instantly removable.

Absolutely right.

Visors have to comply with BS4110 XA, YA or ZA and can only block out a maximum of 50% ambient light.

A race visor blocks out 80%

But the sun visor is accredited under EC22/05 so is not subject to the same standards as a conventional visor.

Motorcycle goggles are likewise not subject to the same rules as 4110 -XA does not apply, so you can legally wear goggles on the road that block ut 90% if you so wish.

That's a good point.......don't have those long sunrises/sunsets here. Plus, better to stay out of the canyons when it's dark/very early morning.......the wildlife hasn't quite gone to bed yet. It's not a deal-breaker, just one more thing to 'bear' in mind when you hit the twisties.

I travel East in the mornings and West in the evenings. If I get the sun in my face in the mornings I'm sure to get it in the evening as well. It's pretty blinding for a few weeks of the year.

Don't look at the maps. Just get lost and find your way home. It's bound to take longer, be more enjoyable and maybe you discover some amazing new roads
