Do coppers still pull people over for black visors?

Perkles and I both had black visors on yesterday. We went past a couple of police cars, one of which was waiting at a roundabout so could have easily pulled us.

Just wondering when the last time was any of us got pulled up for it.

I always wear a black visor and have never been pulled.

I've never been pulled for it but about 4 years ago I was pulled for something else and the copper made me swap my visors over. He claimed that it wasn't CE marked and nothing to do with it being dark. I didn't protest as he was a bit of a dick and I didn't want to risk him doing me for my illegal plate and can.

Sales here never been pulled for a black visor .. Although in low light your chances are higher I guess

Past lots of old bill in a black visor and never been pulled.

I did hear a rumour years back a Derbyshire motorcycle Police rider had a crash wearing a road legal visor and sun glasses and he unfortunately got an eye injury which was put down to wearing sunglasses. Post this incident I heard Derbyshire Police do not look to prosecute for dark visors if conditions dictate they are safe to use.

I think if you were riding in low light or late evening without an alternative you may find the Police response different.

Refreshingly it seems a common sense approach maybe being taken.

It all depends on whether you come across a jobsworth or not.

I was part of the BSI committee that tried to get 80% visors legalised. I won't go into the reasons as to why it never happened, but suffice to say that the Police were actually in favour of black visors being made legal on the bais that if a black visor was worn during lighting up times (using the same rules as for use of headlights) it would be quite simple and easy to enforce.

I put forward a lot of annecdotal evidence of bright sunlight and clear visors causing crashes and the wearing of sunglasses causing severe brain injuries.

But, whilst many coppers who ride in their own time are sympathetic, there are those bulshy ones who would book their own mothers given half a chance.

The other thing that may also make them reluctant to do anything is the fear of being sues (or at least their Force) in the event that a black visor is seized and a crash or injury occurs on the remainder of the journey. There could be a very good argument for causation.

By the way, I always wore a black visor when I served. I still do now

I've never been pulled for it, I personally think its safer to have black visors in the summer

I've been pulled for a black visor - but it was a "Safety Information" roadcheck on them by Essex police, I made all the points T.C made in his post but tbh an articulate non-bolshy biker seemed to surprise them, suffice to say we were sent on our way without even a producer.

The part that stuck with me was the same roadcheck pulling over a Chelsea tractor with very heavily blacked out windows all round including the windscreen, the driver was looking for a tv slot on police interceptors and got very ranty very fast - flip flops, shorts and a wife beater vest - you get the type, last I saw of him he was attempting to peel the dodgy tint film off the windows and having severe problems. Shame.

I tried carrying two visors, one clear & one v. dark and it was a pain....much more bother than it's worth....settled on a medium tint and haven't had an issue with either the lighting, or the law....I should imagine that as long as the law can see in, then they should be fine.
I wouldn't ride with glasses unless I had to because of vision issues....it's one more thing to worry about, they don't fit in the lid properly, even the uber-slim Oakleys, you stick yourself in the ear when you put them on, and you might shed a bit of blood inside your brand new fecking Suomy replica lid, etc. (Allegedly).

DeeGee has a good point...."Hello Sir, the reason I stopped you is your visor is just a tad too dark...I think it may even be illegal. While I have you here, why not take a pew...give me a chance to see what other nice illegal stuff you have on this nice bike of yours".

It'll all be downhill from there.

I have an iridium visor. You can look at birds and they look back, probably thinking woohoo he looks sexy, not knowing there's an old fart behind the visor

One parked at the roundabout to our left as we were coming back, we went straight on to head towards Stratford.

Another coming the other way when we got stuck behind all those cars on the B road not long after leaving Stow.
