New road sign regs could open up a whole can of worms

Post by T.C. »

Some of you may be aware that from the 22nd of April, new powers came into force regarding the placing and usage of road signs.

Whilst some of the new rules are actualy quite sensible, there are one or two which I think are going to open up a whole can of worms, escpecially for example where it is no longer required to have repeater signs on restricted roads. I can see a lot of people being caught out by this one in particular.

It is going to be an interesting few couple of years ahead as decisions, convictions and accident liability cases are decided on the back of these new rules

I'm looking forward to seeing a reduction in the amount of roadside furniture.

It's easy to get distracted and confused when you're faced with a host of signs, next to are close to each other.

This ^^^^^^^^^^.

Reminded me of some old fecker up in LA.....he noted sommit wrong with the signage up by the 5/101 interchange....contacted the sign company in AZ that makes all the local roadsigns and had one made up, then got busted after he put it up.

Except it worked.

He's now in charge of the Dept. that puts up all Interstate signs in CA....or sommit else cool like that.

$$$$$$!!

Talking of changes in approaches to traffic control, one of the 675.cc members posted up recently about something that may interest you..:

Following deregulation, and due to the law on freedom of information, you can now check online to see if you have any impending Speeding tickets coming your way (useful if you use roads with speed cameras).
The system is completely free and very easy to use.

Click here to check your registration (Note;, Absolutely NO personal information is collected from you, a check against the registration is all that is undertaken)

Firstly, why are they stopping repeater signs? That's silly on posted limits I think it's a good idea to show them. They aren't harming anyone nor are they costing anything!? I am very confused over that, it's a way of knowing it is a posted limit if you don't see a repeater then it's most likely a national isn't that what the highway code says? Why do they want to catch people out, it's a simple small sign stating a speed...how is that a bad thing? Will this lead to old bill having more speed watches? Not being funny but people generally need to be reminded of the simple things otherwise it starts to slip!
Secondly stmarks thanks for the link that's great find
