Fwiw Ford got caught out with their bhp figures back in the 60's, I remember my Dad telling me about an exposé that was in "Motor" magazine back then.

The fuss centred around a figure Ford quoted for an American market V8, despite exhaustive testing none of the magazines could get anywhere near Ford's quoted figure, faced with a hostile press and possible law suits from owners not getting what they'd paid for, they had to come clean.

The engine was blueprinted, was run with special bottom end bearings, and had no ancillaries bolted on at all, so no generator, water pump, oil pump, fan, transmission or axle as you'd normally have fitted to a standard car - they were all driven externally within the test bay. So the engine had produced that figure but in "test conditions", so in a regular car was producing dramatically less at the wheels.

Switch to modern day and afaik all the modern manufacturers except Ducati quote flywheel bhp, Duc are the only ones to quote rwbhp, which tbh I commend them for.

Sorry for threadjack, but thought it relevant to the "claimed BHP" discussion.

Deegee. DUCATI did used to claim realistic real world figures measured at the back wheel but I'm not 100% sure they still do. I reckon Ducati must be quoting flywheel BHP these days as I'm pretty sure a 959 doesn't make the claimed 157 bhp at the rear wheel.

That's news to me Blade, sad that they've joined the rest of the industry in quoting something a punter can never get unless he's got a crank dyno and wants to remove the engine....

Looks like the 16 model might be driving used prices down as this is an absolute bargain.

I think I'm pretty much decided that I'm keeping the ZX6R long term as my sportsbike. It's not got the rider aids most bikes have, which are very tempting and I would love to have, but I like the 600 and I'm spending time and money on it which I'll never get back if I sell it. It's more than fast enough for the road and I'll never be quick on track.

The SX is the bike I'll probably change next. I like the zzr1400 but I won't be changing for at least a year. The SX is a bit of a jack of all trades but it puts a smile on my face.

If I had a garage I would have the new zx10r in there. Or wait for the new zx6r. Or wait for the 600cc version of the H2. Or both. Or all 3.

For now I'll have to make do with stealing rides on Perky's bike.

Too many desirable bikes out there and not enough time and money to enjoy them.

Kawasaki Brum have sold all of theirs and have deposits from people who are in a queue. They seem to be selling ok regardless of what the press say about them

Motorbikes are like life IMHO mate.: To be truly content, the trick is to be truly happy with what you have & not be fooled into constantly hankering after that "greener grass". (smirk)

Anybody doing this Kworld thing where you can ride one on Silverstone? June 18th, book through No Limits.

I'm tempted. 1 session for £20 on a brand new bike
