Lock wiring grips

Post by duke63 »

Anyone done this successfully themselves? No matter how i glue the left hand grip on the 748 it always slips down the bar during use.

Quite fancy giving it a go myself but want a proper job done. I know i need lock wire pliers.

I can lockwire an ejection seat but I've got no idea on this one!

Are lockwiring pliers absolutely necessary? I know there's not a job on the seat where they're more beneficial by the time you've got it set up, but that's lockwiring between metal components.

Still, if you get it wrong you can just snip it and try again. Just mind the grips.

I've never replaced grips on a motorbike but on my mountain bike I always used hairspray to hold them in place. Always worked perfectly in all weathers and conditions.

My left grip has worked its way down about 15mm, it bugs the hell out of me, unfortunately ive looked at the Rizoma ones first ;)

Yeah works well. Gives you a bit of lubrication to help slide it on and then sets hard.

Hairspray works as long as water doesn't get under the grip. It must be however that water is doing this somehow. Lockwiring apparently prevents this.

I did a set on an old track bike I used to have, just be careful not to go too tight or it'll cut through the grip, plus making sure you get the twisted stubs going in the direction your hands move saves it folding up or worse sticking in your hand whilst riding.
