Love this! However I have seen and talked to a few people who own these whilst at the IAM meet and I have seen some riders black out the Polite sign with marker, and I have also talked to a few of them who say their wives bought it for them because they like them. These were on dragons den at one point. I have also seen horse riders use them and I don't necessarily see a problem with them, at end of day it could save someone's life from a speeding motorist. Anything that can help you whilst out on 2 wheels has got to be a bonus.

Ha ha ha.....

On a serious note if you want to wear high viz there are plenty out there without trying to look like a police vest, I don't care what anyone says POLITE in the way it's put on there is to present a look....!

Just like the people with bikes marked up to look like police....

In the day and age it's the unmarked cars and bikes you need to watch for....

I'm constantly astounded by how excitable & tetchy bikers seem to get about the riders who wear those vests, or do their bikes in Police style livery.
(As usual) I'm hypocritical & contrary in my view, because I never wear Hi Viz anything, or even pale colours (black leathers, grey or black helmets etc). I even have mainly dark or grey bikes, and none with the "constant lights on" effect. However I don't see my preferences as being any grounds for criticising others who take a more active approach to being noticed by other road users,
Perhaps "The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

Anyway, Rossgo may well be being indoctrinated by the IAM's. However statistically a number of them are bound to be balanced open minded.
Even if most of them seem to me to be very "I am" 's ;)

I really don't see how a high via vest helps.

"Oh I didn't see the bike and rider with lights on and loud exhaust, but my, that gay vest jumped out and got my attention!" (shake)

IMO, bikers don't get seen because drivers don't look. You could have a flashing light on your head and they still won't see you if they don't scan the road properly.

I have no problem with high vises I have used them in the past because it really does make sense...during the night (not so much the day in my opinion. My dad uses a high vis everyday regardless which makes sense and is the safest thing to do. But I like StMarks usually wear dark colours, although I have just bought a bright yellow/orangey colour hoodie to wear over leathers which should just make me stand out a little more.

Don't get me wrong doing what you can to make yourself visible is all good, but just look at the photos of motorbikes and cyclists wearing so called hi viz and highly visible riding gear, including dayglo helmets, which have been knocked off their bikes! Yes a high percentage are actually wearing said gear!
I made a mental note last year about the amount of these photos which were being posted contained the rider with this on.
SMIDNSY - will exist regardless of your attire, I have said this once and I will say again, people's driving ability is worse than it ever has been, the act of actually doing the driving seems to be secondary to talking on the phone, texting, chatting to passengers, thinking about somethings nothing to do with the driving! :(

Its the POLITE wording that makes anyone wearing one of those a twat, not the high viz vest.

There's too much hi-viz stuff around IMO. Almost every van and lorry now has the back covered in reflective stickers and hi-viz colours. Everyone working on or near the roadside wears hi-viz. There are countless roadsigns as well. You're not going to stand out from that.

I wear dark textiles with reflective strips on them. As has been said, if a driver fails to spot a large green motorbike with headlights on it he's not going to see the rider.

Frankie is right, people don't pay attention. You only have to go on to youtube to see how many videos a day are posted of drivers doing something without looking.

This. Hi Viz has no effect ime.

People see patterns.

And those "Polite" vests make me think of those "Baby On Board!" stickers. Oh, I'll be sure to accidentally crash into someone else, then.

I used to think that, but the "Baby On Board" stickers are meant for the accident services after a crash to tell them there maybe a baby in the wreckage.

Sometimes, perhaps.

Plenty of times, they're there because people like to be "LOOK AT ME! I've got a Baby".

I don't really mind them, honestly. But ones like "little madam on board" and so on make me laugh a little. Oh, thank heavens that I now know that your child is a bit of a handful. I feel your pain, parentals, I do! :D
