7500 Mile Service

Post by Blade »

Rang a few kawasaki dealers and seems the 7500 mile service is £480 (shocked)

Just ordered a set of spark plugs, brake fluid, oil, oil filter, sump plug and washer for £88 and will be doing the job myself.

£400 in my pocket and I'll do a better job with much more tlc and better parts. I ordered high specification brake fluid and silkolene race spec full synthetic oil.

Definitely a win win (y)

Are they checking valve clearances or some thing like that for that money? My jag doesn't cost that to service!

How does that affect your warranty Blade?

How much?

I paid £280 for the SX to have the same service. From what I've seen both bikes get the same treatment at that stage.

There's a good thread on the SX site:

http://z1000sx.co.uk/index.php/topic,1278.0.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That shows you how much the service charge varies from dealer to dealer.

You may have had the 24 month service Kwacky.

They list the 7500 mile service and 24 month service at the same interval but big difference on price and very confusing.

No Cookie valve clearances not looked at or even the coolant changed.

The xtra money over the £229 I was quoted covers spark plugs, grease head bearings and sync throttle bodies. All are jobs I can do myself and have the grease and vacuum gauges for sync throttle bodies anyway.

No effect on warranty and I have it in writing from kawasaki. Blade doesn't make school boy mistakes or get caught with his pants down ;) (lol)

The bike was about 12 months old when it had the 7,500 service.

What are the differences? I'll check the invoice when I get home. I know the oil and air filter have been changed. They asked me if I wanted the air filter changing early as it was getting grubby.

I'm not sure which year SX this is for but I presume they're pretty much the same

Looks like the dealers make it up as they go along when it comes to pricing.

For my bike 7500 mile is priced at 399 and the 24 month service is priced at 189

So do you think I've been swindled then? I paid for a 7,500 mile service on a 12 month old bike.

I'll have to get the invoices out.

You have if they changed the spark plugs, greased your head bearings and synchronised your throttle bodies yes.

As these are the main difference between the 2 services.

Apart from spark plug cost it's labour intensive.

All services are based on mileage or time which ever comes first.

Ok, I'll dig out the invoice for you.

It was Kawasaki Birmingham. If you tell them your mate with the green 2014 sx had it done there they should remember me. You can mention my name if that helps.

I know that they have quoted different prices for the same service. I think it depends if you've had your bike from there. Hopefully they should be flexible if you're a referral from a repeat customer.
