I must be the odd one out and the only one with style as I like that colour scheme and have always thought the assymetrical headlights was a great design

My mum did always say I was special

Looking again it needs black levers and black rearsets, but I guess they are left like that to tempt owners into purchases from the BMW performance accessory range.

looks better than all the colours from this year for sure.

Looks like this years black one with some red bits, I think putting all that to one side for a mo, the bike mechanically with all its dynamic traction control and shift assistant pro is well in front of the rest, not to mention the reworked frame and geometry makes for a very good machine.

But if you don't like the look, it all becomes irellivant I suppose.

I see what you mean though Duke, it does look just a bit off. But I'm glad they got rid of the 'gills' on the side fairings, never took to them.

Is it just me or is it very early to be showing next years bikes ?

Are BMW trying to get some of the limelight back on their new machine which Ducati and Yamaha have been stealing in the press recently ?

While I respect your opinion, I always thought it looked like two different teams of designers came up with two different schemes and couldn't agree, so they King Solomon'ed the design. I'm not a real symmetrical kind of guy, but the Beemer has always bothered me. However, the performance of that bike equally appeals to me...

As far as I am aware the 2016 RR is just some colour scheme changes, I have no idea why they would be talking about these models now, its obviously some marketing push.

The bikes looks remain the same, both sides are different, so the gills are on the other side.

I got the impression when i went for the test ride that it wasn't selling as well as they had hoped.

The salesman was already talking about possible deals on it. That said it was a cracking bike to ride and definitely a master of all types of riding, I'm juts not sure it would be different enough to persuade current owners to p/ex for a new one.

Take the white parts off the red bike and chuck them in the bin

Take the red parts off the black bike and put them on the red bike.


Put carbon parts on the black bike to replace the red parts.

BMW always saw the new r1 as a huge problem and threat to their sales and subsequently did not finalise a price till Yamaha issued there's first.

I really think the 1299 and r1 are getting all the magazine time and potentially the sales too which has got to be hurting BMW as its a mega bike.

There is a large chunk of the liter bike owners brigade who like to buy the best. They don't know themselves what's best so they rely on test reports. People like you and Perkles benefit from that as you both ended up with mint nearly new zx10rs.

In 3 years time the market will be flooded with nearly new Gixxer Thous as everyone rushes out to buy the brand new Daytona 1125

You can buy nearly three year old 1199s with less than 3000 miles on the clock.

As you say, i'm not complaining as we can get barely used bikes for 2/3rds of what they cost new but it does make you wonder what the motivation is to spend so much on a bike that people hardly use.

There are people out there who buy £500 shoes they wear once a year. Too many folk are magpies IMO, buying stuff for the sake of ownership, nothing more.

I actually liked the 'gills' quite a lot. Took a While to like the headlights though, but they did grow on me.
