Not in the post but went to Halfords today and picked up some part synthetic engine oil (halfords own). Will change the oil over when the new Reg/ Rec turns up.

It had a service around 2.5K miles ago so it ciuld do with getting changed again really. Then I would imagine soon it will need a 32k mile service so this oil will be good just for a freshen up

I didn't even know Halfords did their own brand of motorcycle oil tbh.

I buy their oil for Mrs G's car - it drinks it, doesn't matter if I buy good oil or cheap stuff, it gets consumed at the same rate, so the cheap stuff it is!

I knew they did car oil but wasn't aware they had expanded into motorcycle oil. I wonder who makes the stuff for them ? Got to be one of the majors I would imagine.

I've used Halfords stuff in a couple of cars and in a couple of bikes before. Seems pretty good stuff in my opinion. Maybe not the greatest but for a couple thou miles here and there can't be that bad surely!

I'm a bit of brand snob and always go with what I know and trust, but totally agree its going to be fine especially for a few thousand miles. At the end of the day it's made to the same international and industry recognised standard and you can bet a penny to a pound its made for Halfords by one of the oil majors anyway.

Yep, if it's got the JASO or API specs and they match what the engine manufacturer says it should be its good to go, I was always taught that the major difference between top brand oil and also-ran oil is the amount of additives that are put into it, anti-foam, lubricity etc etc, afaik it's the decent additives to the base oil that makes it expensive and normally better performing.

A good point to remember is what an old boss of mine from years ago told me: "all the oils and filters for the fleet for a year aren't as much as one months parts bill". Puts it into perspective somewhat.

I often ask the tech guy at opie oils what he recommends for a particular bike or car. Very knowledgeable and helpful people at opie oils and normally have some good promotions on too, so win win.
