IoM TT 2015 photo thread

Post by Jack »

I arrived on wednesday pm and got my tent etc set up and just managed to get out on the course for practice which was pretty cool, what was not cool however was being run into by a half pissed guy who knocked my camera off my shoulder while I was on my way up Bray hill, lens is toast until I get back to the mainland and send it to sigma for repair, camera is damaged pretty badly but took it to a local shop who got it working - just about , also managed to get a cheap lens to see me through the TT but obviously nowhere near the quality of my usual lens. I am insured so hopefully it will all be repaired or replaced when I get back , I'm doing my best not to stress about until then as I want to enjoy my time here , anyways here are a few of the shots I have taken so far .

all I got was "aww sorry pal " over his shoulder from 10 yards away , just as well as if he'd been closer I would have twatted him with the lens which weighs in at 3kg , its £4k of kit so I doubt he could have replaced it , like I say I'm not going to stress about it until the insurance deny my claim for some obscure reason .

Impressive shots, especially considering you were not using your optimal set up. If I'd taken em all you would have seen would have been empty tarmac.

Love that first shot (allhail)
Can't believe that tw@ didn't stop. Like you say though, there's no point stressing about it now. Better to just enjoy the rest of it while you're there. Have you informed your insurance though? Best to report it asap in case they have time stipulations or you need a crime report number etc. Fingers crossed for you and keep those pics coming (y)

What a freaking prick. I'm surprised you didn't peg him with the broken lens! I'm guessing your sacrificing F-stop with the cheaper lens, but the pics are still bloody good mate (y)

I dropped a 50-200mm lens and stuffed it after taking about 12 shots with it from new. It's wasn't £4K worth and it was my fault but I was still gutted. So credit to you that you're not letting it ruin your trip.

That really sucks mate, fingers crossed the insurance co does it's job without and grief.

The second set of the photos just goes to show the talent is behind the lens. (y)

that and the Norton/Aprilia (which sounds like rolling thunder inside your head ) are the 2 best looking bikes here ( personal preference obviously )

Yes I've sacrificed a huge amount of f/stop but luckily the camera has really good high iso performance with very little noise so not too difficult to compensate.

Good point re informing my insurance from here , I'll e-mail them tonight .

Thanks for all the positive comments

Tonights supersport race was a washout for me though the place I had recce'd and went to had the barriers pushed back 20 feet because of the behavior of morons who apparently were still wandering around on a live course which meant all I got to see was about 3 milliseconds as each bike whizzed past the end of the road , still good to watch but shite for taking photo's , so I didn't bother and just enjoyed the race .

its because of the efforts of this guy and the team that I got a mention on the manx radio TT, he is the 1st serving Royal Marine to race in the TT , the 1st Royal Marine to do a 120+ mph lap and I am proud to be able to call him a friend.

I took these at a wider angle to try and get the crowd in to give it a bit more atmosphere, not sure if it worked ,feedback would be appreciated.

Photo 4 is my personal favourite. It's a wide shot without losing focus of the main subject. You've captured the crowd and the setting whilst conveying the speed of the motorbike.

Hopefully that makes sense.

With Kwacky, 4 is my fav but there's not a bad photo in that lot at all

The bikes are incredibly sharp, guess your panning with the bike and shooting on a really high speed? I can imagine that's not an easy shot to get, let alone a full series of top shots.

Your doing a great job Jack, keep it up!!!
