On top of that a 53 year old German was killed in an accident. Pronounced dead at the scene. It happened on the Ballaugh to Jurby Coast Road. No more details at present.

I've always thought that if something bad were to happen to a top name, the whole event could be in trouble.

David Jeffries ... And the event still continued

They know if they make a big mistake or something goes wrong it could be there last ride but is that part of the adrenaline fix they are looking for. Like a tight rope walker with no safety rope. I do wonder how long it will last before someone tries to shut it down.
"80mph" sorry officer I possibly could not have done that I'm no Valentino Rossi.

I think it's spectator deaths that'll threaten the race, not a rider death

As Rocket points out, we've had big names leave us in the past.

I think the threat to road racing is already growing - new chicanes at NW200 as one example. I think we've had our Concorde moment for the smaller road race events and most will follow suit. I know it's not comparing like for like as the amount of riders through any one section at any moment is less, but how long until they stick a means of slowing them down on the Mountain Mile? Or Verandah? The logic seems to be to slow the riders before the "big" corners to make it safer. Just disrupts the flow IMHO and increases the probability of comings-together or red mist.

Let's not forget that these bikes are stupidly fast now and are packed with loads of tech to make them quicker. Changes to the courses might be needed for rider safety.

I can't see the end coming soon. Progress has been made on safety at the event and its hugely popular and trying to expand as an international TT road race series.

I think the course needs more jumps, and the riders can carry chains and knock off other riders. And we call it Road Rash instead of the TT.

Events like the TT are totally reliant on sponsors money and they don't ever want bad publicity. There was a top TV programme a few years back about F1 racing and Jackie Stewart said that safety in the sport changed the day sponsorship money got involved as they won't pay if the publicity is in any way bad.

Scary thought as that's clearly the direction things are moving.

Bring back fag money, they would hardly been concerned about danger, their products kills you anyway (lol)

Closely followed by the Martini colours in Rallying. The new Williams F1 car with its Martini sponsorship does look lovely.

I remember getting a scalextric jps lotus, lovely.
