I had heard that Ducati was up for sale. I had no idea HD were interested.

Reading the article it sounds like HD are interesting in buying the technology Ducati has. I guess that makes sense if they want to compete outside of the US.

It's a smart move for both companies, I think....HD will have learned from their mistake with MV....and while HD bike sales may be slow, as a brand they do pretty well overall.

Porsche designed the v rods rod engine and are essentially vw so both companies have a history
It makes me wonder why vw want to get rid of ducati

HD aren't known for their build quality so it will be interesting to see what happens. Doesn't sound like a great move tbh.

Reading the article it seems a lot of the VW board are against the sale of Ducati.
Maybe the bean counters need the cash to pay out on the VW emission scandal.

Sounds to me as if VW are putting as much as they can in the emissions scandal war chest. Bad times ahead by the looks of things.

Re: Leather saddlebags on a Panigale?
I can see the logic for a HD - Ducati meld for products like the Monster and Diavel, but when it comes to anything in the sportsbike category HD are proven incompetents, they've had at least two goes at it to my knowledge - Buell and MV, they looked like idiots after both of those chapters in their history. Third time lucky, or another failure?

Re: Leather saddlebags on a Panigale?
Ducati are a completely independent company. Sounds like HD just want to buy into the brand to improve their own image to me.

Re: Leather saddlebags on a Panigale?
It's not like anyone looking for a new bike is gonna be sitting around thinking "Oh gosh...I'm so torn between buying a new Ducati Desmo to go tearing around the track on, or a massive HD Mega-Glide for touring in The Rockies".

Re: Leather saddlebags on a Panigale?
I didn't even realise Ducati were up for sale!! I don't know enough about either brand and certainly didn't know HD have tried the sports bike route before with two other manufacturers...unsure how this will go down with Ducati enthusiasts!
