I used to run my SC01/02s at 32/36 on the road and 28/28 on the track, but obviously these are very different tyresCav wrote:I always run 33/36 on the road.. works perfectly for me at the pace I ride at

Re: the tyre thread
With Supercorsas and Racetecs I aim for around 30-32 front, 25-30 rear (track pressures are taken just as I come in off the track trying not to dilly-dally so they stay close to operating temp/pressure.
It depends on track surface and track temperature as the the pressure and I gauge it by tyre wear. Typically I run 30 front and 26 rear hot which ends up being 25/19 cold

Re: the tyre thread
I find the Pirelli/Metzeler tyres 'fold' on the road, meaning it feels like the carcass can't cope with the bumps etc. I've never used a better road tyre than the Dunlop SportsmartMonty wrote:I used to run my SC01/02s at 32/36 on the road and 28/28 on the track, but obviously these are very different tyresCav wrote:I always run 33/36 on the road.. works perfectly for me at the pace I ride at

Re: the tyre thread
I'd agree with that, even Pirelli openly state that while the SCs are street legal the carcass is not really designed for road use. I loved them on the road though, like snot on a blanket. If I did more than one or two track days a year I'd buy cheap take offs and leave them on.

Re: the tyre thread
If you want, I have a set of Racetec RR (K1 front K2 rear) 180/60 which have done 1.5 trackdays. over 6mm in the centre and about 2.5 on the right shoulder and 3.5 on the left. Perfect for the road.
I'm likely to post them up for sale anyway as I don't do enough road riding to use them

I get them as warm as any normal road tyre but no warmer and they certainly aren't hot. Surprised you crashed though, that sucksPerkles wrote:I crashed twice by using supercorsas on the road ,they just dont get enough heat in them imo

Re: the tyre thread
Cheers dude, but I'm going to stick with road tyres simply because of the mileage I want to do and won't be doing enough track days. If i do ever start doing more track days I'll get a spare set of wheels, plus I've actually got two sets of SCs in the garage.Cav wrote:If you want, I have a set of Racetec RR (K1 front K2 rear) 180/60 which have done 1.5 trackdays. over 6mm in the centre and about 2.5 on the right shoulder and 3.5 on the left. Re: The Tyre Thread
The SP seems to be the tyre of choice for a lot of manufacturers on their top flight sportsbikes.
I'm really impressed with them as a road tyre and will definitely replace like for like.

Re: The Tyre Thread
I've been chatting with the guy from Addison tyres and his advice is to use Metzeler or Pirelli on the ZX10R. He says he's had loads of negative feedback with other tyre makes but none with those two brands.

Re: The Tyre Thread
I like Pirelli and Metzler as they have a soft carcass.
I changed from Dunlop GP racer to Metzler M5 on my Blade and the compliance on the road was night and day. The Dunlop had the mega stiff Ntec carcass and riding over white lines was like riding over potholes.
Admittedly the Dunlop GP racer were more track than road tyre but the same Ntec technology is in the sportsmart.
Imo pirelli and metzler make the best road and track tyres on the market.

Re: The Tyre Thread
Metzeler have won me over. The Z8s on the SX have done twice the mileage of any other tyre I've had on it. Close to 6,800 for the rear.

Re: The Tyre Thread
I got over 5000 miles from a Rear Sportsmart, 5750 from the front. I could ride as fast on the road with these as I can on the Supercorsa SC1/2 or Racetec K3. Sketchy in the wet and uncomfortable though
Only tyre I got more miles from was the BT023 on my SV650 (9000 miles on a rear)

Re: The Tyre Thread
I wouldn't disagree, but Modern sports and sports touring tyres are so good these days most of the deference in speed is in the riders head.Cav wrote:I got over 5000 miles from a Rear Sportsmart, 5750 from the front. I loved the Sportsmarts, had at least 3 sets over the years and then swapped to the GPs when I started doing track days. Loved them to, but agree with Blade, bloody stiff carcass.

Re: The Tyre Thread
Pirelli Supercorsa SPs ordered from Adison Tyres ,they are due in the next few weeks so should be in time for the KWorld live track session. The pirelli rep told me rosso 3s are almost as good but give more mileage,he was testing them today at Snetterton. If I am going on track with 180 bhp I want a tyre with ultimate grip so I can give it the beans so I am willing to wait
I will do a quick review when I test them out
