Not sure thats possible. The dealer can only act as directed by Kawasaki UK with regards the warranty claim procedure and KawasakI UK are saying remove the aftermarket QS and see if the fault clears. If it doesn't clear I m under the impression kawasaki are happy to assist with a warranty claim. I'm not sure how I bypass the request to remove the QS and still receive warranty support.

To remove and replace the sensor 5 minutes tops.

To remove the QS 3 hours and then the same again to fit it back on the bike if it's found not to be faulty.

Bit poor. The sensor is under the pillion seat so really easy to get to

How much is a new sensor?

Its a £40 sensor to us so much less to them. Its not like you are asking for a gear box rebuild. Seems a bit far fetched from the dealer not to just change it.

Personally I would change the sensor myself and get the bike back on the road then sort the issue with the QS later on. If the new sensor works you can go back with a big "I told you so" and a demand for your money.

Can you and Rocket not do a swap for an hour and test them out?

That's the problem it's not clear its the sensor or if the QS has anything to do with it. And the QS has no issues it's silky smooth in operation it's just Kawasaki uk not the dealer are suggesting it MAY be a possible cause.

It could be a bad connection or a fault with the ecu according to the Kawasaki factory maintenance manual but without a test harness it's not impossible, but also quite awkward for me to check continuity, output voltages and ECU power supply.

Like most things with the right tools quite easy to test but then Kawasaki UK won't accept my opinion even if correctly identified using theit test methods as I'm not a kawasaki approved mechanic.

Good suggestion Duke but as it's intermittent it may be fine for the 1 hour test duration and then occur afterwards.

For info I rode 200 miles in the twisties and had no issues. I rode to Wales and the route there has alot of stop / starts where it cut out a number of times, hence my theory the hot exhaust is causing the sensor to overheat and break down if it gets too hot when repeatedly exposed to exhaust heat when stationary.

To everyone who has made a suggestion it's genuinely appreciated and received with thanks.

Haha. All joking aside I need to get this fixed.

It's peak biking season and Im loosing confidence in a great bike I love riding.

I want to book a track day but feel reluctant to shell out 160 quid if the bike MAY let me down.

In fairness they have been very helpful Rocket.

Its Kawasaki UK who are insisting on QS removal and then to see if the fault clears. If the dealer had his way he would make a claim as he suggested doing such and has been really helpful.

Can the QS be disconnected without being removed?

Not sure Duke I'm not great with electrics.

It connects to each coil and the battery negative terminal.

Maybe disconnecting the battey negative would disable the QS with no adverse effects.

Any electricians advise with this one ???

Ah intermittent fault, that makes it more difficult. You could take the QS off take it back to the dealers and then have the situation where they never find a problem and have Kawasaki blame the QS.

Think I'd be tempted to just pay the money, and buy the sensor. If it turns out to be something else you've only lost 50 quid and it's still under warranty.

I m going to check all the QS connections again as it could be that but Imo unlikely as it's a good quality QS with many zx10r installs fault free and mine operates faultlessly and I really don't want to take it off as it's genuinely awesome mod and would be hard to go back to a normal change now.

Dukes idea of disconnecting could be an option and hopefully an Electrician may be able to advise on here.
