Not if it saves you 6k to spend on things that matter like motorbikes

Money is low down on my list of priorities. I spend enough time out of the house as it is, so when I'm at home I want to be doing stuff I want to do.

I don't like DIY, I don't have the tools for DIY, I don't have the skill sets for DIY. In my opinion paying a skilled tradesman to do a job they've done countless times before if worth more than me fumbling my way through something to save a few quid.

I'm not saying my way is the right way. I have no issue with those who want to do stuff themselves, I'm simply setting out why I prefer not to DIY.

I think it is certainly about time and having the time to do so.

When your paid the money for the legal skills you have then some of that money has to go to others who have other skills as there is only a finite amount of time. It's about choice and everyone has a different balance they prefer. I think its the same for most people, just the balance and skills are obviously different.

Everyone is good at something, no one can be expert in everything thats for sure.

On the other hand i do think some practical trades now take the pi$$ in terms of the time it takes them to deliver what they do - i.e. their hourly rates are far too high. I guess the same is true in the legal profession with some of their rates

Expert in everything....no.

Expert in everything they apply themselves to......I don't see why not. There's a direct correlation between applied knowledge and success in most fields.

Well...except maybe the soccer field.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not having a go a cyclists in general. I am one myself when it comes to commuting time. However, if a car driver waits for me to pass a parked vehicle then I do make an effort, no matter how cold and wet it is, to raise a hand in thanks. Not the fecking cockwombles that i waited for this morning, oh no. it was their god given right to be on the road and the whole world must stop for them....

Sadly I'm not that well paid. The type of work I do means we're screwed by the Insurance companies on how much we can charge. Our client's get charged about £125 an hour while our opponents are claiming £400

I would say a very lucky person indeed if money is low priority

I get what your saying Kwacky and Cookie is right it's all about balance.

I would happily pay 7k if I thought it was good value in terms of materials, skills and experience but what I was looking at under the pretty veneer was nothing but glorified flat pack chipboard furniture.

I don't mind employing skilled tradesman if it's good value to do so and as I get older timer has become more important than money.

Would I service my own car to save 50 quid probably not. Would I do the wardrobes myself to save 6k yes most probably.

Each to their own mate and would be a funny world if it wasn't.

Most of what is claimed are uninsured losses such as damages for injury, loss of earnings, care etc. The Claimant's lawyers claim their money from us (our insurer client's pay) when they're successful.

My rant was based at the bellends who frequent the villages and country lanes near where i live. I find commuting cyclists in london to generally be quite polite and mindful of the way the roads work. There are a few who take liberties with red lights, but they are certainly not the majority. I feel safer on the london part of the commute than I do in the village.

Really, not my experience. A lot of them were extremely aggressive.

So doesn't that also mean the majority of them were fairly benign in nature???

I watched one guy dive down the left hand side of a truck banging on the side and kicking it, because I assume it had cut him up earlier. Don't really know what had happened but the cyclist was clearly pissed off.

The truck stopped at the lights and then turned left crushing the cyclist to death.

10 years riding around London or any city for that matter you soon learn the pecking order.

Arguing with Vodafone, who had decided I needed to pay £20 a month for cheaper international calls.

20 minutes later I got my money back and £40 credit for having had my time wasted.
