Rode back from the coast. Still hot but not yesterday's inferno, only saw 42 deg.

Now in the pool sinking ciders. Think the kids can stay up late cause I don't want to get out of here!

The R/h side of my face blew up like a balloon whilst we were sat in Pizza Express eating lunch - 40 mins prior to going to the flicks. No reason for the swelling, it wasn't sore, but was numb - tbh I was more than a bit worried, so we sacked the pics and nipped off to A&E, a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon....

Apparently it's a blocked saliva duct that may well have an infection, so I'm on heavy duty antibiotics for a week and hoping it doesn't reoccur as it may be a minor op to fix it. Great!

I had that a few years ago DG....the antibiotics got the vast majority of it down...the 'minor op' was just a needle to get the remaining pus out....it sounds a lot worse than it is.
It flared up again a little bit...but I just squeezed it out. You can aim it at your mates if you fancy a laugh.

Hth.

Cheers D, it's gone down quite a bit this morning so I suspect it's just a calcium nodule that blocked the duct temporarily, but it's no hardship to take the rest of the antibiotics just in case.

Yep, definitely done something to it. Been in excruciating pain today. Working from home tomorrow and trying to get an appointment to see the doc.

Bad news that is. You're doing really well with the running.

Worst case for me would be a stress fracture. Fingers crossed.

Nothing broken...

But no idea what the actual issue is, other than some very unusual swelling on the ankle.

Got a support on and have resorted to ibuprofen to keep the pain down.

Today I needed to affix a plastic tray to a workbench. The plastic was fairly thick, which meant I couldn't just drive a screw in.

Not with the tools I had, anyway.

So I began to look around for a makeshift tool. One that could shave away some excess.

I found such a tool in the form of a scalpel blade.

(If at this point you think you know where I'm going with this story, you're probably right).

So there I am, talking to the trainees as they work, essentially whittling away the plastic. I'm holding the blade as I don't have a handle nearby. I'm giving them advice on how to improve their lockwire and, somewhat ironically, utilise their hand skills to better effect, when all of a sudden, the blade catches in the plastic and all the force I'm using to turn the blade is transferred into a pushing force.

A pushing force that slides my thumb down the length of the blade under quite some pressure!

A few minutes later I return to the scene with a few paper towels around the affected area, to see one off the trainees cleaning up the floor. Apparently I whipped my hand back when I did it which may have coated the local area with blood!

There was quite a bit!

I, and the trainees, did get a good look at it using our magnifying equipment. It was quite amusing to them when I made it look like my thumb was talking.

Until I restarted the bleeding.

One of them nearly threw up!
