Re: Work
My old, old employer are coming for a visit today, querying a system they produce for in-process inspection of a dental bur.
It's something I was told not to look into 2 months ago when I mentioned it, but now my Manager approached me saying we need it.

Re: Work
Relocation isn't appealing to me now I have a child, but when you're approached for a role tailored to everything you've done in your career for a significant pay increase, it's hard not to be tempted.

Re: Work
I've got my half year appraisal tomorrow. There's nothing for me to say. Just give me some work and leave me to it.

Re: Work
What’s housing costs like down that way? Looks like a lovely spot and not to far to come back for weekend visits if most your family is local to you now.. Is Mrs Cav working atm?
Sounds like quite the opportunity.

Re: Work
Mrs Cav has the perfect job, she's her autistic brother's PA. It's very little work, means we don't need child care and she's effectively being paid to do what she would already do. It's 10K of our household income. My pay would be increasing by 18k so reduced to 8 while she wouldn't be working.. by of that 8k I'd be getting taxed 40%. We wouldn't actually be much better off but she'd be alone more.
Yeah Plymouth is a gorgeous area and it's great for dogs on the north coast line which isn't too far away.
Housing costs are somewhat similar to my area.
Mrs Cav is a proper home bird though and I'm not convinced she'd make the move if I took it.

Re: Work
Well there is more to Ma Cav’s job than money. You could’ve stopped at that first line and I would’ve totally understood your hesitation.Cav wrote: ↑03 Feb 2023, 08:50 Mrs Cav has the perfect job, she's her autistic brother's PA. And apparently it’s a sh*t hole anyway

Re: Work
My work is good, what I do is appreciated, they realise I've not got target but the reasons are out of my hands. I'm to carry on doing what I'm doing.
I just need job security at the moment. We lost a client and there's been a knock on effect.

Re: Work
I have no doubt your work is good and you are an asset to your firm. Just milk it to retirement, it’s just around the corner anyway

If the UK government have their way, then we will all be working til we die.kiwikrasher wrote: ↑03 Feb 2023, 12:53I have no doubt your work is good and you are an asset to your firm. Just milk it to retirement, it’s just around the corner anyway
Anyone who thinks people can work til they are 68-70 must still be under 50, because it’s impossible to understand how getting older means you start to lose the energies to work the same hours.

Re: Work
I think if people WANT to work until they're 70 then more power to them... for some people, work keeps them going, gives them purpose, motivates them, etc.
But they shouldn't HAVE to work until that age.... the body gives up the ghost at some point, no matter how keen the mind is.

Re: Work
The Government are effectively almost forcing many people to work til they are 68. It’s the same issue of an an ageing population. Eventually there will not be enough younger people born and living in this country to do the jobs needed. Which is why the restriction on immigration are very short sighted.D41 wrote: ↑04 Feb 2023, 21:20I think if people WANT to work until they're 70 then more power to them... for some people, work keeps them going, gives them purpose, motivates them, etc.
