For fooks sake
It's finally happened. I've been hit whilst commuting.
On the A46 off the M40. It's a 70mph dual carriageway. Traffic is heavy but moving. I reckon I was doing about 45mph. Lights and fog lights on.
I'm in lane 2 and I'm riding past a slip road on my left. Muppet in a Black Ford Ka comes off the sliproad, across lane 1 and yep, into lane 2 hitting me. I've got no escape route. I try to go round him but there's no time and not enough room. He hits me. The bike gets shoved to the right. I manage to fight it and I keep it upright. Lord knows how.
I look across and point to the left, the slip road is long so there's still room for us to park up.
I pull over, the Ford parks behind me. A young mixed race lad gets out, early 20s, trackie on. He's really sorry, he didn't see me, he's making sure I'm fine, apologising etc. I take my lid and gloves off. I tell him I'm ok but I'm shaken. My bike is damaged as it looks like his wing mirror has hit the side above the crash protection, so there's a hole in the side panel and the side of the front nose cone is damaged.
I get my phone out and start taking photos. At which point he gets cagey. FFS - I bet he's not insured. His 4 mates all start pulling their hoodies down or scarves up.
He's not sure where he's going, hesitates when I ask where he lives, and doesn't know who his insurers are. All the hallmarks. He's not got his phone on him so there's no point me calling the number he's just given me.
He keeps going on about leaving the main road and following him so he can give me his details. So why can't you do it here? He also suggests I give him my phone so he can put his details in the phone. I refuse, he jumps into his car and drives off.
I dial 999. They take his details but I need to dial 101 to report the crash. I call 101 who tell me I have to go into the station in person to report it.
So I call Carole Nash, who are excellent. But they confirm I've lost part of my NCB as there's a claim and I won't get it back if he's not insured.
The bike is booked in for a service this Friday so CN have agreed that DMC Kawasaki can assess it.
I'll post some photos up in a bit.
My bosses have been great, they keep telling me to go home. I might do that later on. I'm a bit of a mess at the moment.

Re: For fooks sake
I've done an online check and it's got tax and an MOT on it, so it might be a case of either it's not his car, it is his car and he doesn't want a claim against his insurance, or it's his car and it's got tax and an MOT but no insurance. But you need insurance to get tax so fingers crossed.

Re: For fooks sake
in which case he is even more of a muppet for doing a runner from the scene of an accident, he has just made it a whole lot worse for himself if it is his car

Is there an insurance policy on the car?

Have another well done for staying on! That could most definitely have been a lot worse.

No idea. Maybe he's up to no good, it's not his car or he doesn't want a claim against him?Cavetroll87 wrote:so he is insured, taxed, mot'd so legal, so why on earth do a runner??? Re: For fooks sake
Well, that's a positive anyway. Presumably irrespective of who the twunt was who was driving the insurance is going to be liable.Kwacky wrote:Thanks for the linkDaytonAndy wrote:

Don't forget to get a receipt for the taxi that takes you home now. ("Teaching my grandmother", again...)
Well done staying upright when sideswiped, great to read that you're (largely) ok. Take it easy though, shock can be delayed mate...

Re: For fooks sake
Mostly likely reason for him doing a runner is the car was stolen. I bet the number isn't for his phone and his name wasn't legit.
If there's a few of them in hoodies and scarves first thing in the morning it's probably a driveway steal or someone on holiday, broken into their house and robbed the keys

Re: For fooks sake
Glad your ok.
Shit news but bikes mend quicker than you buddy.
Not good though and hope it's as painless as possible.
Be careful riding home if you feel shaken and ensure the bike is road worthy with nothing loose which could cause a second accident.
Take it easy buddy.
