Cav's ZX6R
As most of you know, I ride a 2009 ZX6R with over 29,000 miles all-weather miles on it. I've started doing trackdays and entertain the idea of racing. With this in mind I've set about repairing my bike to it's former glory...
What's been done:
Shock has been sent off to Tillit Suspension in Bishop's Cleeve, Cheltenham. It was serviced and revalved for track/race use - meaning the compression has been increased and the rebound decreased. This modification theoretically makes the spring (a little too soft for my weight) the correct spring for me. I've reinstalled it and torqued it up.
I did also check my swingarm bearings whilst the shock was off and everything was bob on !!
Brake Fluid has been replaced from ATE Super 200 to Motul RBF660 (BSB Spec) in preparation for when the calipers are rebuilt.
To be done:
Caliper rebuild. I've just ordered the new seals (a whopping £64 for OEM parts) as only 2 pistons out of the 8 moved freely. I'm going to take them apart and give everything a thorough clean - I'm expecting great things when it's all done!
Tyres will be ordered next month.. I'm going to give the Metzeler Racetec RR K1/K2 a go as a source I know can get a one race old set for £85 !!
Brake Pads will be ordered next month too most likely. I'll be getting the SBS DC pads which I cannot wait to use in anger!
Chain and Sprockets will be cleaned and checked for wear and a -1 front sprocket will be ordered.. fingers crossed I get better drive out of the slow 2nd gear corners
There is a wishlist too but I shall refrain from sharing for now - it's quite ridiculous haha

Re: Cav's ZX6R
Okay.. well one of the items on the wishlist has just become a reality.
I've switched banks so they gave me £100 plus I received a rebate for income tax.. it covers the cost of a Brembo RCS 19x18

Re: Cav's ZX6R
Nice one.
I've had Brembo, Beringer and Accossato and they're all pretty good. Berginer quality is the best, Accossato best value for money. You know where you stand with Brembo - it's never going to be a poor product.

Re: Cav's ZX6R
Kwacky.. I was looking at the Accossato and was going to do it until my mate told me he bought a Brembo for £180... couldn't turn it down to be honest. I'm going to make an offer of £165 and see what they say to that anyway.
Perkles.. have you got one? Got a link for one?

Re: Cav's ZX6R
You might be better off just waiting for a Moto2 bike coming up on the cheap. Might actually work out cheaper!Cav wrote:Now I have some time at my disposal I shall share my wishlist...:

Haha.. you have no idea how much I would like that !!
I'd prefer to have a go on a Moto2 bike than a MotoGP bike in all honesty

Re: Cav's ZX6R
My thoughts exactly.. I offered the guy £180 on eBay then I had an email from eBay saying "save 5%". Another £9 off made me a happy shopper!!
Should be here next wednesday then I'll be installing it and servicing my calipers with the new seals at the same time.
Think I'll be doing a trackday at Bedford on March 29th

Re: Cav's ZX6R
Nice one, Perkles.
I've also ordered some brake and clutch lever guards so I'll be putting back the QA tube for now. Got the rest of a holiday to pay off next month too.
Very quickly my bike seems to be getting more how I want it

Re: Cav's ZX6R
I think its worth spending money on ,they are superb bikes and its great to make mods and try them out on track.I really gelled with my old GSXR on track once it was all sorted
