Banning rugby from schools?

Have you seen this in the news?

There's a proposal to stop playing this game due to the risk of injury.

Stuff like this gets on my nerves. Yes, there's a risk of injury, but the biggest threat to our kids are cars. No calls to ban those. What about all other contact sports, should they go as well? Perhaps I should tell my kids to give up martial arts?

Rugby is a good game and should be played.

Well I think it sucks and sh1t like this boils my p1ss.

These do good w#nkers can exclude theit own children if that is there individual decision but I wish they wouldnt try and force their horse cr@p ideas on me or others.

Decisions like this should be taken at an individual level. I won't force my opinion on the do good w#nkers and only ask in return they offer the same courtesy.

Did I mention I think these fairy's are w#nkers ? (gah)

I know from my time as a governor that so much of this is down to fear of being sued in the event of any tragedy happening.

I eventually stopped being a governor as more and more responsibility was being heaped on the Board of Governors yet we were all volunteers but still expected to take full responsibility for anything that happened. There was one final incident involving a teacher which made me decide i didn't need this anymore.

And I thought being a School Governor was just to get front row seats at the Christmas nativity (giggle)

Its isn't just this country Perkles, its the whole world.

its the culture of compensation that has forced this way of thinking.

You need to have done a risk assessment for so many things nowadays.

I agree Duke but alot of the risk assessment are complete sh1t and not worth the paper there written on so it's pretty ironic imo.

If my kids go on a school trip all parents are sent a copy of the RA. The ones I have read have been a total joke and a waste of time tbh. Personally I'm happy to trust the teachers judgement. Most are parents themselves and also professional people who act responsibly so little value in a tick in the box generating a meaningless RA.

I'm not against RA it has a genuine value but only in the correct scenario.

Slightly off subject. When I was at school probably about 13 years old I remember having a whip round at dinner and buying half a bottle of whiskey at lunch break. We then gave the whiskey to the PE teacher so we didn't have to do a cross country run in the winter rain :?

Can you imagine doing that today (shocked)

Most people don't know how to draw up a proper method statement and risk assessment, so the process usually fails at the first hurdle.

The origins of risk assessment are very good and where physical harm could result because one was not done then they certainly have their place. But I have to do a risk assessment for any new client I take on to ensure they are who they say they are and not involved in something illegal. Common sense would say I would steer clear of these sort of people anyway but that isn't enough for the law. ( and in any case banks and lawyers seem to ignore the rules when it suits them anyway)

Equally compensation where they is a genuine financial or physical loss as a result of someone else's incompetence is a good thing but it's been allowed to get out of hand.

Takes the piss. I heard this on the radio I just don't get how people think anymore. Personally I think PT at school is character building, they will either like it or hate it. Personally I dont like rugby but I wouldn't of stopped doing it during PT it's part of growing up, kids have to feel what these things are like otherwise we will all end up just theory ...and theory is boring as hell!!
