Having nuts and washers left over is a known weight saving performance mod. I am disappointed in you.

Reckon I may have saved a few kilos clearing flies out of the airbox.

Can't believe how many were in there as only cleaned it about 1000miles ago. The central ram air scoop must be like some kind of industrial grade Dyson fly sucking machine :?

How does the QS cut the power, Blade? They don't all work quite the same do they?

Taken from the Translogic website Duke:

Translogic quick shifters interrupt cylinders separately and do not simply short the signal wires to ground like other systems, this isn't good for the OEM ECU, the Translogic Quickshifters compliment the OEM ECUs to ensure superior longevity.

It's the IS4 intellishift model Duke which varies the kill time depending on various real time engine parameters to allow seamless shifting. Much smoother than having a fixed kill time apparently. It also has the ability to set up manually via their pro mode.

Apparently it's the one to have on the zx10r and very much rated. I believe it's the same one James Hillier uses at the TT and that has to be the ultimate testing ground imo.

Taking the SX in for its 15,000 service today so a lazy start for me.

That sounds painfully expensive kwacky I assume it's the valve clearance check ?

New chain and sprockets as well.

I'm off to the food bank later.

What you been quoted ? If main stealer, 15k service, valves clearances and chain and sprockets got to be north of £500 and probably closer to £600 tbh :?

I never paid that for mine. It was done at main dealer. The only thing I supplied was chain and sprockets. Think it was around £375

That's a lot.. I paid £160 for my valve clearances to be checked and adjusted and did the oil, recirc valve (reed valve??), oil filter and air filter myself in a couple of hours. Wasn't at a main dealer but still got a stamp.

16 out of 16 valves were out of tolerance (I got it done 1000 miles earlier than schedule too (25,600miles)

Cav £160 is very cheap for a valve check and adjustment on 16 valves as there would be £80 of shims (if there all out) with them being £5 each unless he could swap around some of the older ones to correct the adjustment. Which I assume they must have and this is what I did on my zx6r

Where did you get this done though as sounds a bargain ?

Can I ask what a recirc / reed valve is ? As not familiar with this on a 4 stroke and I like you like to do home servicing but have not come across this item before.

Did you mean 25600 km as this equates exactly to 16000 mlies which is when 99% of manufacturers schedule the first valve clearance check.

He quoted me less but didn't realise there were going to be so many valves needing adjusting so I asked him how much it actually cost and paid that. I assume he replaced some and swapped others over. He does get shims cheap though, he worked on my SV650S previously and did the valves on that too.

It's an old mate of mine who, due to circumstances, has had to give up the garage and is now running a farm. He'll still do some work for me if I ask him, though he doesn't get much time anymore.

On top of the cylinder head there's a rectangular block with two bolts, removing it is a pig and be careful not to damage the gasket but there is a spring sheet in there which gets covered in soot. That needs cleaning off. A lot of people buy block off plates for it when they get a remap done.

It's 30 something thousand kms which is around 25000 miles. I'll try and find the exact number

Going to check my service schedule now as I think mines 15k and on all other Honda's I ve owned was 16k.

Tbh I did the valves on my B1 at 7.5k when the schedule was 15k and it needed 8 adjusting.

I paid £960 to have the R1 serviced and MOTd last year, including chain and sprocket and tyres. Done by a local race team, who did a superb job, including throttle body balancing and everything. Worth every penny.

So much so, that I've done 600 miles on it since. Ooops.

Bloody distracting girlfriends. :D

Just check the 10 has valves checked at 15k.

Surprised the high reving 600 has nearly double the mileage before the check but it's there in black and white.

£450 for the full service, chain and sprockets supplied and fitted and crash bungs fitted.

I did shop around but Blade was closer.

Mike offered the same for £400 but without a courtesy bike which B'ham Kwak have supplied.

To be honest I want a Kawasaki dealership to do the work on this bike as I bought it from them and it was an ex demo so any issues can be dealt with.

And to be fair to them they did me a really good deal on the last service when there was an issue with the rear wheel assembly.

Anyway, they gave me one of these to play with:-

I asked about taking the zzr1400 out as I'm tempted by one next year to replace the SX. However their new demo zzr isn't in and they've sold the old one.

I'll do a review of the KTM tonight. Shortarses need not apply.
