American school shooting

Post by duke63 »

Number 19 THIS year!

Very pertinent and poignant speech by Senator Chris Murphy. Parents must be very concerned when they send their kids to school every day in that country. Maybe they won't ever be coming home.

Its is frankly obscene that that Government doesn't nothing to protect the must vulnerable of their society.

Trump was given $30m from the NRA during his election campaign.

He won't be changing the laws any time soon.

From a post that popped up on my arsebook timeline.
The school shooting in Parkland, Florida today marks the 29th mass shooting in the US in 2018. There have only been 45 days in 2018.
US gun laws are fine, aren't they???

‘The right to defend yourself’ against youngsters and children going about their daily school life.

How can the right to bear arms be more important than the right of a pupil to exit school still alive at the end of the day?

The amount of health and safety work American schools have to prepare must be horrendous.

US as a whole, or just Florida??

Reason I ask is I'm not sure what Florida gun laws are myself. They do vary a great deal from state-to-state.....it's worth bearing that in mind.

Florida is very relaxed. You don't need a permit to purchase, just proof of age and you don't have to register your firearms.

Purchase and Possession

No state permit is required to possess or purchase a rifle, shotgun or handgun.

It is unlawful for any convicted felon to have in his or her care, custody, control, or possession any firearm or to carry a concealed weapon unless his civil rights have been restored.

also:-

Miscellaneous

Under Florida law, there is no “duty to retreat” if you are attacked in any place you have a lawful right to be. Instead, you may stand your ground and meet force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others.

and

Machine Guns

The possession of a machine gun, defined as any firearm which shoots, or is designed to shoot, automatically, more than one shot without manually reloading, by a single function of the trigger, is prohibited unless lawfully owned and possessed under provisions of federal law.

NO CIVILIAN SHOULD HAVE ACCESS TO ASSAULT WEAPONS. THEY ARE KILING OUR CHILDREN.
I would say the US as a whole.

Well yes, but an AR-15 is illegal anywhere at all....anything that is fully automatic is.

So I guess you are correct, the gun laws ARE fine after all..../

Wait.....hang on a minute. I've fired an AK in Vegas, so there's definitely exceptions.

The guy involved in that Vegas shooting had all manner of weapons to hand.

When the US constitution was drawn up the idea was to allow citizens to be armed so they could be used as milita against invading nations and to "protect" themselves against the natives.

Weapons were single shot and slow to reload. Powder was expensive.

There are 27 amendments to the Constitution, so it's not like there's a problem making any changes to it. One of those amendments was to abolish alcohol.

It's not. It's a semi automatic but you can buy an adapter to make them fully automatic.

I hate to say it but this isn't even newsworthy anymore certainly in the UK , any discussion is pointless as no action will ever be taken because there is too much money at stake . Perhaps if american kids stopped shooting each other and started shooting politicians and business leaders and lobbyists instead then things might change .

Wasn’t after laughs to be honest, it’s pretty fecking abismal the attitude towards it all by those in power.

Maybe if th mass shootings starting happening in Congress something might happen.
