Question for the Ducati guru, Mr Duke63

Which do you go for 1299s or 1199R as there very similar money nearly new.

You could never call the 1299s ordinary but the 1199R is super exotica imo and seems alot more bang for your buck. However saying that I think the answer is going to be the 1299s is the better bike for mere mortals.

So what the differences and pros and cons for each Duke ?

Apparently the 1199R 2015 is faster than the 1299S but you are talking silly fast anyway. The 1199R needs to be a 2015-on bike though. I believe its noticeably better than the 2012-14 bike, which had electronically adjustable suspension which the 2015 doesn't.

If it were my money it would be 2015 1199R, then a 2015 1299S and lastly the 1199R 2012-14.

The 1299S has a lot of the equipment that the £50k Superleggera had other than the magnesium bits.

1199R 2015 has a full titanium exhaust system as standard but the other two don't.

There is a nice little comparison checker on the Ducati website so you can add the bikes you are interested in and compare the features.

The cheaper 1199R model is the 13-14 and is probably cheaper because as you say it's the least preferable bike.

whilst me & Frankie were dropping our bikes off on Saturday a guy turned up with a 4 week old 1299 with track fairings on, i'll let you know what he thinks of it.

1199R/1299S are definitely two bikes on my short list / shopping list.

Will have to try and get test rides too.

Bored of the ZX10R?

Wouldn't say bored as the zx10r is a great bike. But I fancy a change at end of season as I will have had it 2 years by then and there's plenty of other bikes I want to enjoy owning / experiencing.

Also I can sell it with 12 months full Kawasaki warranty remaining which should help any sale.

If it was me it would be the 1299 all day long, I honestly found the 1199 way too difficult control/manage especially on our lovely roads and it was a Brutal bike. I believe the 1299 is a more refined ride, oh and I loved the up & downshift QS with auto blipper .

The earlier 1199R is based on the 1199. From what I gave read it doesn't quite have the kudos of a special Ducati R model like the 2015 bike does. The 1299 makes a lot more sense as a road bike IMHO.

On paper at least it's looking the preferred candidate although I do fancy a go on a R1.

However a Ducati sportsbike is on the bucket list of must have bikes

Doesn't make any sense to me.

1199R valued at £19000 is £477 to insure

R1 valued at £125000 is £544 to insure

To be fair, £544 to insure a £125k bike seems very reasonable to me

Also, have you met a Ducati rider that goes fast?!

A lot of new 1299S owners are saying that when the bikes given value goes above £20,000 the insurance takes a big jump or becomes almost impossible to get a quote.

That must be some special R1 though
