If it was internal, I would. Unfortunately, I have neither the access nor the inclination to make network changes on a site in Norway. It's awkward, but you really shouldn't alter customer's stuff which is theirs to support. If you do and it breaks, you're in a world of hurt.

I know it's techie for some, but they don't know how to exclude IPs on a dhcp server??
My god.
For those of you who are not technical, it's somewhere in the first chapter of servers
I feel for you fella. Utter amateurs by the sounds.

Indeed. How on earth are they provisioning DHCP and not knowing how to do an exclusion?
Ugh.

Traffic jams caused by **** not paying attention and causing an accident. Three times today and the last was some simpleton who ran into the back of an ambulance.
HTF can you not see an ambulance 5 ft in front of you in a traffic queue????

I'm not in the tech world at all, but I easily followed what that was all about, and surely it can't be that hard? I set static IP's on all the devices at home as there's over a dozen things that connect and it was getting messy and having connection problems leaving it auto assigned.dogbot wrote:Cheers.C00kiemonster wrote:I know it's techie for some, but they don't know how to exclude IPs on a dhcp server??

I can imagine it's a bit more complicated at the level you are discussing but still.

Due to the amount of cage-drivers that I see playing with their phones, as they negotiate traffic jams, I am far from surprised.duke63 wrote:......HTF can you not see an ambulance 5 ft in front of you in a traffic queue????
Irritated & annoyed by their lack of due care, but not remotely surprised that they would make such errors.
On a similar theme, I saw a muppet the other day who pulled out in front of an Ambulance (everyone else was moving aside) & continued on oblivious of the blues & twos right behind.

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Ha ha I had an ambulance pull out on me two days ago, I just shook my head so called professional driver my arse, just to impatient to wait. No there were not in any emergency!
Saying that i saw one coming onto the A - road I was on yesterday, blue lights going, I slowed and let him on, he proceeded to drive like a mad man thorough a tricky section of this dual carriage way, cars moving, all was fine, always gets busy here traffic wise. Anyway he gets through all that then the lights go out and he is now driving normally. I think he might have been a cheeky boy, as I passed him him and his mate were drinking coffee, I could see him leaning on the steering wheel as he did it!!!!

Talking of Ambulances..
..On the way home from a blitz through Wales I was coming round a bend to find a Rapid Response vehicle with it's lights and sirens on in front of me. I had to slam the anchors on to avoid him - oops. It spoiled the rest of my ride but I was not going to be a d!ck and overtake him.

Twatish customers who get me to spend hours working on concepts and proposals to then tell me they have a global agreement in place with another supplier

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Actually, it's not really. They're using Windows, so it's a matter of right click > add exclusion and enter the range of IPs you don't want to be handed out.kiwikrasher wrote:I'm not in the tech world at all, but I easily followed what that was all about, and surely it can't be that hard? Frankly, the number of people being paid as Windows SysAdmins who don't know stuff like that is scary.
Fwiw, it wouldn't even be THAT difficult if their DHCP was served by something bespoke, like a Cisco:
Code: Select all
ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.99
Sigh.
Anyway, they've decided that it's actually far easier for me to remove the backup network interface from the server, meaning that if there's a problem with their primary, we won't be able to get on the box to help them...

Even I could do 95% of their job just by turning it off and on againdogbot wrote:Frankly, the number of people being paid as Windows SysAdmins who don't know stuff like that is scary.

Because I can't say it directly to her right now, but...
If you told me 6 months ago that you just want to be friends, cool. We're friends and I value and respect you as such.
But you don't get to get jealous when I'm about to start dating someone else.
You made your bed...

Bang someone else, record it, then show you friendzone pal the video and see how she reacts. Then you'll know if she just wants to be friends

Re: What do you want to vent about today?
Having to write up Performance Management Plan goals, ensuring they align to the Business Plan goals for our division and they have to be SMART (Specific, Measurable, Aggressive, Realistic, Time Bound). So not fair on my first night shift where my biggest aim is not to fall asleep.
My brain can't cope with this at the moment
Think I'll go back to googling motorbike related goals for this year.
