continental sport attack 3

Post by rocket »

Just ordered a set for the Gsxr1000. After yesterdays ride I think its time for some new rubber. Had a slide and no matter what i tried i could not get the rosso 2's tacky. I was ready to order some Metzeler m7rr. However i meet up with a chap yesterday riding a rsv4 Tuono. He was using continental sport attack 3's. We were riding at similar speeds and his tyre's was getting tacky and looked in great shape. He had done 2500 miles which included a trip to isle of man. The rear also looked like it had quite a bit of life left in it and He said there were no signs of drop off. So after reading a few reviews etc. i have decided to try some of the sport attacks out. I will post up how i get on with them. :)

They seem to be getting more popular. It'll be interesting to see how you rate them.

My only caveat would be that when i went to the Ducati trackday at Donington, some of the hire bikes were wearing Sport Attacks and some with Rosso 3s. The Rosso 3s seemed to be wearing much better.....or it could have been the riders were happy pushing the Contis harder.

Not sure which it was. I wanted to ask the California Superbike School guys their opinion as its their sponsored tyre this year.

I want something that works well in the wet as well as the dry and what experience i have had with the rosso's is that they are not great in wet weather. Ill soon find out but i was very impressed the other day.

I don't like the Rosso in the wet, they really do like to spin up.

Rosso Corsa not good in the wet but in fairness Pirelli don't claim such.

Duke is right the Contisportattack3 is the tyre used by students and instructors at California superbike school on track.

Good in mixed conditions and warm up quick with a wider temperature operating range should make then a great road tyre.

That's why I prefer the Metzler tyres, they perform in the wet, which is what I need.

(f1) I don't "need" the wet performance as I try to avoid the rain, but it useful on those wet and winter rides up to stow.

What impresses me more is when you go from dry to damp roads with the m7's you barely notice.

I'd be very interested to hear what you think of them. Personally love the M7RRs they are fantastic in all weather's and also have wore very well with the amount of mileage I've done so far

I now have these mounted on my Gsxr. There are some differences form the tyres that were on before as i now using a 55 profile on the rear from a 50. Also complete new brakes at the front and lighter wheels.

I went out on them today to scrub them in. I took it really steady on the ride out and as the weather looked ropy headed over to Doncaster. Initial turn in is sharp there is a drop and then its slows to be progressive. Unfortunately the roads were very dirty lots of building works going on so i was very steady round the roundabouts were i would usually throw it in. In some ways this was a good thing as a lady decided to go round the roundabout in the left hand lane no indicator i had to jump on the brakes stop and let her cut me up.
Being aggressive on the throttle in a straight line did not cause any problems for the tyres they gripped and fired me down the road I managed to do a couple of decent speed corners and they are very stable. A few places i was waiting for a bit of a tank slap but did not seem to induce any today.

Called in a j&S for a quick drink and then headed out with the intention of finding some quieter roads. However it started looking black so i started to head home and yep it rained pretty heavy. I was even steadier round the bends but by this time i had started to bed the brakes in so i started to testing to see how much grip i had. Impressive amounts of grip front and back in the rain and very slippery conditions. i was being pretty ham fisted with both and can not recall any slips of spins. Look good so far just bee more time on the bike.

I think either your or blade posted a link to a review of these tyres where they came top in testing, only the M7RR beat them in wet conditions.

If they're that good in the dry and close to the M7rr in the wet they should be ideal for days like today.

Be interesting to see what you think compared to the m7's. I can't wait to get rid of the corsa's on the KTM, they are suite.

My default choice would be the m7's but in always open to change.

I'll be watching this thread with interest James. My experience of the M7RRs is almost an exact match to yours. Love them, but they don't last very long and feel horrible towards the end.

I'm always happy to try new tyres. These could be next on the Street triple. I'll ask Addison tomorrow about them

Addison haven't sold enough of them to comment. They've had no feedback so far.
